CRAIG SMITH RE-SIGNS TOO

International prop Craig Smith has re-signed with Edinburgh Rugby on a two- year-contract. He has been with the club since 2000 when he joined Edinburgh Reivers. Craig has played 125 games for Edinburgh and has seven caps for Scotland.

Smith said: "I am looking forward to next season. Hopefully we can build on what we have achieved this season. As a squad we have improved and hopefully we can keep going forward and aim for a higher finish in the Celtic League and have another competitive year in Europe. I would like to thank my agent Shaun Longstaff for his efforts."

Frank Hadden, Edinburgh Rugby head coach, said: "It is great to re-sign Craig. He is an outstanding rugby player and he has made significant progress in the scrum. There is no doubt that at 26 years of age his best is yet to come."

CRAIG SMITH (Melrose and Edinburgh Rugby) Prop. Born 30.08.78 in Fulford, York. 6ft 2in, 18st 7lb. Craig James Smith played in all three Test matches on Scotland's 2004 summer tour to Australasia. He made a noticeable impact every time he was introduced from the subs bench, none more so than in the match against Samoa in Wellington when he bolted down the park only to be brought down tantalisingly close to the try line. Previously he played in both Test matches on Scotland's 2002 tour of North America. Prior to the tour he had played at loose-head prop in the non-cap match against the Barbarians but he lined up on the right of the scrum when he started matches on the tour. He first appeared for Scotland as a substitute in the non-cap game against the Barbarians in May 2001. He featured in the Scotland training squad in the lead up to the 2001 Autumn Tests before being ruled out though a foot fracture sustained in a Heineken Cup match against Bath. He received his first Scotland A cap in season 2000-2001 against Italy and he has now played ten times at that level. Four summers ago he played for the Stoke club in New Zealand's south island and was selected for Nelson Bays against Scotland during the 2000 summer tour. On his return in 2000 he was contracted by Edinburgh Reivers. Craig has represented Scotland at all age grade levels and was part of the Scotland U19 squad who beat England in 1997. He has also played for Berwick County High School, the Scottish Students, Scotland Development XV and the Scottish Co-optimists. Prior to a stint with Melrose, Craig played his club rugby at Berwick.
