EDINBURGH RUGBY PRESS RELEASE

Press release

Edinburgh rugby supporters are pulling together to assist their sporting heroes and champion the development of rugby in East Scotland with an exciting new initiative.

Identifying a need to have a say in the running of the club and a continuing decrease in essential funding available to the Gunners and for the development and promotion of rugby as a sport in the community, a number of supporters decided to create a dedicated organisation that would allow them to voice their constructive opinions and assist their chosen sport to flourish.

The Foundation hopes to provide much needed support to Edinburgh Rugby and also to the entire rugby community across the East of Scotland, recognising that all rugby players need nurturing to become the Edinburgh and Scotland players of the future. In addition, E.R.F aspire to broaden the Edinburgh Rugby supporter base and appeal to a wider range of people from all walks of life

Edinburgh Rugby Coach Frank Hadden is 100% behind the creation of ERF and is delighted that the fans are giving much needed support to the club.

"During these sour times when Scottish Rugby is experiencing a downturn in financial circumstances, I greatly welcome the creation of a Supporters Trust and its capacity to provide Edinburgh Rugby with additional funding and practical support. This would allow us to invest in our future and bring fresh talent to the game, as well as continuing to sustain our existing team. It also illustrates that there is great support for the club and that rugby is a game that inspires as much passion amongst supporters as players."

Skipper Chris Paterson is also backing ERF and is keen for the club to co-operate fully.

"I think it's a great step that the supporters are taking to prove that support for rugby in Scotland and Edinburgh in particular is alive and kicking. It is also reassuring for us as professional players to know that the supporters are 100% behind us and willing to go the extra mile to preserve the game. After the events of recent months, supporters have every right to voice their opinions and the Trust seems to be a productive way of doing so."

Edinburgh Gunners versus Connacht. Kick off 4pm at Murrayfield. A representative from the Gunners squad will lend their support to E.R.F at half time, accompanied by one of the current Gunners apprentices.
