Final Adjustments to the Squad for the New Season

Final Adjustments to the Squad for the New Season
Tuesday, 24 July 2007
It is with regret that Edinburgh Rugby announce the departure of Chris Paterson from the Club, by mutual consent and with immediate effect.  Chris has been a loyal servant to the club over the past nine seasons including three as Club Captain and leaves to take on a new challenge with Gloucester Rugby in the Guinness Premiership.  Chris commented, ‘I would like to thank Edinburgh for the opportunity to continue my career elsewhere and I wish everyone at Edinburgh every success in the coming season'.

Chris leaves behind a host of current Scotland internationals at Edinburgh who have all committed their futures to the club for the next two to three years.  Coach Lynn Howells comments that, ‘While a player of the calibre of Chris Paterson would be an asset to any club, Edinburgh Rugby currently has a squad with strength in depth, including a number of full internationals, that is more than capable of competing well in both competitions next season".

Lynn goes on to state that, "In the past few months when political matters have dominated the Rugby press it is great to see Edinburgh Rugby and the international players staying committed to developing the game in Scotland - especially during this period of instability".

With the current crop of internationals and the addition of Stephen Larkham after the World Cup, Edinburgh can look forward to the new season with confidence.
