I'd love to use Baggage's rallying cry of looks weak but unfortuneately, given the number of withdrawals they have had it looks a surprisingly strong outfit.
We should have the edge in the 3/4s but will this be negated by Park's at 10?
What's the betting that the amatuer they've named at tight head turns out to be an absolute beast! |

| I'm not sure we will have the edge in the three quarters. Contepomi is one of the reasons the argies did so well at the world cup and is one of the best inside centres in the world on his day. When I saw Tiesi play for London Irish he was also a very good player although I haven't seen him for Quins this season. I don't know about their flyhalf but he can't be worse than Dan Parks!! |

Hola Nudger
the tighthead is 33 years old, so no novice, 116kg so no lightweight and 1.90m tall. All in all a typical Argentinian prop.
Profiles (prefiles) are on www.uar.com

| I really hope Hadden grows a pair and makes the decision to drop Dan Parks in favour of Godman or even Mossy, although it seems like Southwell is going to be dropped to fit him in. As much as I rate Mossy, I prefer Hugo at Fullback as I feel he is more solid in defense and , if Parks does indeed start at 10, we're going to need as good a defence as possible. |

While I too would like to see Mossy, Godman, my gran, your gran, basically anyone other than Parks at 10 I am not sure that Hugo is that much better a defender than Paterson.
For one, I think that the perception (in some quarters) that Mossy is a poor defender is incorrect. I can only recall him having 2 really bad missed tackles at full back - against Bergamasco and Noon, both of whom have run through plenty of much bigger and stronger men than Mossy during their careers.
I agree that Hugo is probably a better tackler than Mossy in a head on situation, a big part of defence for a full back is pace and I have felt that shug has frequently looked a little lumbering this season. Overall I think that Southwell's better front on tackling and Mossy's better pace balance out to make them about equivalent as defenders.
When you consider Mossy's far greater attacking threat and goalkicking he's surely got to be ahead of Southwell (both for Scotland and for us next season) unless of course someone sees sense and finally gives Paterson a run at 10 to see if he is as good as many of us (apart from JamieT obviously ) think he may be. Will Andy Robinson be that man? |

I can see what you're saying, although I feel having both in the squad (Mossy at 10 and Hugo at 15) would just be a better prospect overall. Parks seems to lack all of the afore-mentioned skills (with the exception of goal-kicking.. sometimes).
I don't deny Paterson is also a very good full back, I just feel the team could benefit from a) Having Mossy at 10 and getting the back line firing and b) NOT Having Parks in the team. We know what he can (or more likely CAN'T) do, give Mossy some time. Again, this will probably depend on the bench Haddock chooses as well. |

Nudger I am sure that AR will give him a go and a go in training ( as has happened in the past, with by now lots of coaches ) , I have a question for you though -
If AR does not play him regularily at 10 does that now then mean that ( as is the norm on this forum) that AR is another coach who is an idiot?

Scots award three new caps as Paterson equals record
Scotland have chosen three new caps in their team to face Argentina, the world’s third ranked side, in Rosario on Saturday.
The debutants, 22-year-old centre Ben Cairns, 23-year-old wing Thom Evans and lock Matt Mustchin, 31, will take their place alongside a man at the other end of the experience scale, Chris Paterson, who will equal Scott Murray’s cap record total as he makes his 87th Test match appearance.
In all, there are ten players who figured in the starting line-up for Scotland’s most recent match – the March meeting with Italy in Rome.
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden said: “I’ve been discussing this selection on and off for the best part of two months with Sean Lineen, Andy Robinson and Alan Tait.
“Once it became clear who was available and who was unavailable we looked at how we were going to have to play and we’re confident we have picked a side to do what we need to do in such an important game this weekend.”
On his new caps, Hadden said: “I’ve been tracking Ben Cairns since he was 17 as he looked like a future outside centre. He is very mature both on and off the field and has the ability to play his role so it brings out the best of those around about him.
“I spoke to Thom before the World Cup and told him that his whole season should be geared to getting on the plane to Argentina. He thoroughly deserves this opportunity as he’s a very exciting talent.
“Matt is abrasive and combative – the sort of qualities that will be ideally suited to the forward battle with the Pumas this weekend.”
Johnnie Beattie, 22, whose last Scotland appearance was in the 2007 RBS 6 Nations Championship against France, returns to win his fourth cap at No 8, reward from Hadden’s perspective for the “greater consistency he has shown this year.”
Paterson, whose 100% goal kicking record has stretched to his last 33 strikes, was typically modest in assessing his achievement. “You have to be proud of what you have achieved but the moment to start dwelling on it is sometime in the future.
“Records are not the finishing line. What I aim for on Saturday is to produce a performance where I have as a big an impact as possible in helping Scotland to win.”
Hadden added: “Sometimes, in the pursuit of winning matches, coaches gloss over this kind of milestone but everyone has to acknowledge the significance of this landmark and one that Chris richly deserves.”

Pretty much as Iain Morrison laid the ground for in Scotland on Sunday.
Simon must have done very well in training and got over his injury to split Nick and Ben. I would have preferred Nick and Ben myself.
Nothing left to say but good luck to the team for saturday. |

| jamiet, if AR gives CP a decent run at 10 without switching his positions around all the time and CP is not good enough, that will be the end of that and everyone will be happy to have the question answered. But if he keeps flip-flopping, changing his position from week to week (or day to day!) and throwing him in at 10 in desperation then pulling him out again when he isn't the world's all time greatest, then yes, he will be another idiot. |
