As I see the first contributor below Mr English pointed out, English is actually Irish. In fact, he used to write for the Sunday Times Ireland.
But you would probably have worked that out anyway, given that he generally writes that everything Irish is fabulous and derides everything Scottish (for example, the opening few paragraphs of his story).
O'Sullivan for Scotland coach indeed. Hilarious. It's not clear why any Union would be interested in someone who can put out such a talented side in the World Cup yet come away very very lucky not to have lost to both Namibia and Georgia. |

I'm with you DJ.
Jake White would be a good coach for us to get, but would we be a good job for him to get? Probably not. And given that he failed to adapt to the demands of coaching Leicester - albeit in their opinion - I wonder if it's a bit soon for Loffreda just now. |

I found that article to be absolute garbage , it is incredibly easy to look at things in black and white and not look for the reasons why ( any fool can do that ).
While I am not defending Hadden's selection policy I do think the one area that has been not in his control is the 10 position ( I've probably openened a can of worms here !).
As has been pointed out on here before I really rate Godman as 10 and now beleive he should be first choice 10, and in my opinion should have been in for the first test against Argentina. However pre six nations his form was only beginning to be good after a dire start to the season ,and wasn't even the starting 10 for Edinburgh , so quite rightly shouldn't have been in the 6 nations even though I would have liked him to be. Other options for 10 ? Patterson - another guy who wasn't playing regularily so in my opinion could only be counted as back up 10, Gordon Ross ? I don't know enough about his form to comment albeit I belive he eas injured pre six nations ?( probably wrong there). I feel FH was left with no option but to play DP at 10.
As far as the other selections go and the almost compulsion to play the subs - even if the guys they are replacing are having a stormer I do feel he has got it wrong.
If the players that have come in continue to play well and ( if FH is still there ) and are subsequently not picked for the autumn internationals then I would agree with English. |

The most important thing about the Scottish national team coach is that he understands how to get the best out of the players he has. To me, this means playing in the traditional Scottish way - fast-paced, aggressive, scrapping, producing quick ball, and breaking at speed. We'll never win an arm-wrestle with the big boys of rugby, we just don't have the physicality for that.
My concern about Loffreda or any other overseas coach is that I'm not sure they understand this, as they probably know zero about Scottish rugby. I think this is partly why Matt Williams failed. I'm sure they'd learn in time, but that means another tranch of depressing defeats while this is going on.
I'm not convinced that FH is the right guy for the job, but if he's not then I'd much rather see someone who knows the Scottish game take over, even if their much less well known in the world of international coaching. |
