The target audience needs to be wider if the numbers are ever to increase sufficiently. That means putting an attractive proposition before loads of people who don’t think about attending matches, usually don’t know they’re on or even that ER exists - and anyway don’t see what’s in it for them.

Emphasis mine.

If I'm the one missing the point feel free to educate me. But to my mind outreach work of the kind being undertaken in EGT is a very important way of generating interest in the club. You're right that it's probably not having much of an impact in Dunfermline or Haddington or Livingston, but at the end of the day the city is where the bulk of the club's customers are going to come from, and so that's why this particular project is being focused on the city.

We have three season tickets in the household. All three vouchers for friends are being taken up by non rugby watching friends.

How many are you bringing on saturday? Smile

I'm defending the idea, not its implementation.

My neighbour did not know that Edinburgh were playing Wasps on saturday until I mentioned it yesterday. Another four coming!

Fine keep targeting Edinburgh but there is little or no advertising in this part of the world (Fife) to promote the game. Yes the marketing has to be improved.

The SRU still consider Fife to be part of the Midlands. Though technically the club isn't part of the regional structure and so doesn't necessarily have to adhere to those boundaries.

How do our supporter numbers in Fife compare with those in the Lothians anyway?

DL#1F

My neighbours are originally from Dalkeith and moved here because of their jobs.

If we are the "Midlands" and don't count for advertising can the SRU give the Reds back to us and have a third pro team. Wink

I hink no advertising is right. I have seen virtually none even in Edinburgh.

I didn't say Fife didn't count for Edinburgh advertising. In fact if you go back to my last post and actually read the thing this time I think you'll find I said pretty much the exact opposite! Rolling Eyes

The point DL1Fan i s that 'Edinburgh's got talent' is not a recognisable or valid proposition in advertising terms. What exactly is being proposed to the customer that they can sign up to? Come on, it's a vapid slogan! The proposition might be something like, Because Embra's got talent, you're missing out on a great day's adventure if you don't get down there, or something like that. The proposition is a statement that defines the central drive of the ad campaign. How it's translated into an award-winning, bum-shifting headline is a job for the creatives. But ''Embra's got talent' ticks no known boxes in that matrix.

Wouldn't it be better if you tried to resurrect the dying FOSRS instead of bitching and whining here?

Roy - I think we're coming at this from different angles to be honest. You seem to be trying to see "Edinburgh's Got Talent" as an advertising campaign whereas I see it as an outreach project designed to raise awareness of the club among the wider public - something you obviously agree is lacking. The advertising campaign is surely all the stuff with "Are You IN?" plastered across it, and while a case could be made that that's a bit on the crass side, I don't consider it to be any more crass than any of the advertising we had when the Carruthers were in charge. Not being based in Edinburgh either I'm not in a position to comment on how the two things are joining up, which I suppose is the key, but I think the idea of projects like EGT has mileage.
