Just had a promotional email from the SRU about the Autumn Tests which includes this cheeky little offer. So,
a) is this not exactly the type of thing we've been wanting our pals at the SRU to do?
b) who reckons we'll get a record crowd for the home game against Glasgow? |

An idea whose time was really about 7 years ago, but better late than never. There could be a really massive crowd on Boxing Day as a result.
The key thing will be to make sure that everything goes well on the day (no embarrassing turnstile-related delays) and that those who like what they see are targeted with appropriate deals to entice them back - a "6 pack" ticket for the rest of the season, for example. Great idea, great opportunity. |

Absolutely... last season at Christmas there was an offer for half-season tickets for the remaining games so there is a precedent, and once you've got people committed to going to games regularly like that you've won half the battle (it worked on me!). |

Now that I've verified that this isn't a sick joke, I'll just say that if this doesn't work, would the last person out of the two clubs please turn off the lights?

| The real solution would just be to make it a free game but ensure there are enough seats reserved for Glasgow & Edinburgh Season ticket holders |

Well, it effectively is a free game, but by tying the free tickets to the purchase of Scotland tickets you are pushing them in the direction of people who by definition already have in interest in going to watch live rugby, and without having to rely on those people having to make a positive decision to go watch a pro team. |

In the past I've seen comments from allegedly club supporters who when asked about pro rugby say "they don't like the product".
The free ticket for the Wasps match was a good start. The 4,225 official attendees could only have gone away with a good impression of Edinburgh Rugby. The offer of a free ticket to the Edinburgh v Glasgow match follows up on that. However as this match in all probability will be the best attended of the year outwith any Heineken Cup match surely it would have been a good idea to offer an alternative home match. |

I think it's just that the Edinburgh v Glasgow match is likely to be the most attractive game to start people off with - they might not be familiar with how the ML works, so it's better to introduce them to it with an all-Scottish game and ease them into the whole three-country thing later. Or something like that.

| Think it's a great idea. If both sides are doing well come December, we may even break 10,000 for the game. |

| The record for Magners League is 48000... for the Last Stand at Lansdowne Road - there have also been a few 25k crowds - mainly in Ireland... I think higher than 10 is achievable, maybe up to 20k |

| A crowd of 10k would at least show there is a market. Bearing in mind some of the SPL clubs are only averaging 4 to 5 K so far this season |

You've got to think that a crowd of at least the same as the Celtic Cup Final back in 2003 is achievable - I think that was around 17k, so maybe 20k is a reasonable target.
Great idea though, and let's hope for as thrilling a match as last season to entice the new support to keep coming back. |
