Ulster was only a narrow loss on the scoreboard. I'm just saying! Very Happy

Having watched the Leinster vs Connacht I have no doubt that we are able to beat Leinster. Whether we do... that depends.
I hope sexton is playing becauuse although he's a good talented player he is also a weakness for them. In our previous game in the first 20 minutes we ran down his channel a lot in the first twenty (where we did well). The game was turned when they brought on the Fijian stand off who's built like a flanker. If we get in their faces and slow down their ball and play well we will win. If they get control possession and give their backs good ball we're screwed.

Nacewa is actually a Kiwi and at 5'11" and 13st 12lb is hardly built like a flanker. He is however a very talented layer and that is what turned the ast game. They removed a very ordinary 10 in Sexton and replaced him with a world class player and that is why the game changed.

I too hope that Sexton plays as he is not even as good as Godman who should warm the bench for me as David Blair offers far more diversity. More importantly we need a true 7 to be fit otherwise we will be ripped to bits at the break down once again. We are missing some real competition in the back row to make the under performers like Hogg buck up their ideas.

Above all we need to do the simple things and get back to winning at home.

AAh DJ - I take it you are making your assumptions on viewing every game or just the ones you see on the TV?

A world class player is not made by a couple of games on TV nor is a bad one made by the same reason. Razz

I have probably seen a lot more of Nacewa live (3 times) and also on TV (numerable times) than you have and therefore I feel I'm in a good position to form the opinion of him that I have. After all you don't need to see every minute of a players career to form an opinion, you blatently haven't with your opinions about Chris Paterson.

However it is just my opinion, just as it is your opinion that Phil Godman is our best 10, and we don't have to agree about everything... in fact it would be a very boring life if we all did Smile . I personally don't think he, Godman (who I have seen live twice this season and numerable times live and on TV before this season), has a clue what he is doing when he plays and therefore makes it up as he goes along and fails to read or control the game properly. A bit like Sexton who I will admit I have seen only 2 times (once live and once on TV), so I may be being harsh Embarassed , but I await the proof that I am.

Don't make the assumption that because I live in England that I do not travel to watch the teams I support. Rolling Eyes Razz Smile

I didn't realise he was a kiwi, and yes he did look good. I probably should have put "he tackles like a flanker". He certainly looks strong. I seem to remember his first action against edinburgh was a thumping tackle which led the change in match fortunes.

Was he injured against Connacht or was it squad rotation? The former I hope from an edinburgh point of view. I agree that we need a proper seven (McDonald or rennie)

Oh and to add my handbag to the 'rammy' I think Godman and Sexton are both good players with weaknesses

He was born in Auckland but he is of Fijian descent apparently.

Fortunately for us but unfortunately for him and Leinster he is, as jamiet said, out with a broken arm after putting in another big hit in defence in Leinster's game against the Ospreys. I wish him a full, if not too speedy - so as to make the return HC fixture, recovery. Wink

You aren't the only ones wondering about the make-up of the Leinster 9-12 axis (which has misfired over our last 2 matches). However having Conters at 10 has not been tried yet this season and I'd be surprised if Cheika goes for it on Sat. TBH I'm not looking forward to this game. Mentally Leinster seem to have a problem in dealing with Edinburgh's fast rucking wide game in Murrayfield (witness last season's fixture). May be the width of the pitch is accentuated by the empty stands. We certainly have the manpower to "bash it up the centre" but I fear for us if we have to rely on that. We need to be able to mix it with play at speed out wide with forwards linking and hitting the rucks hard and in numbers. It is these aspects of the game which have been missing lately. The ball is not getting to the midfield quick enough to take advantage of gaps in the defensive line and we do not have a Gleeson-like 7 to link with and support strike runners. Leinster just have to lay the Murrayfield hoodoo to rest once and for all.....they just have to!!!!! I just don't think it will be this year.

WEBSTER RETURNS FOR HEINEKEN CUP CLASH

Simon Webster admits he is relieved to be resuming competitive action for Edinburgh for Saturday’s opening Heineken Cup match against Leinster at Murrayfield (11 October, kick off 1.35pm) and says he is aiming to help to make it four in a row against the Irish Province.

The Scotland wing has missed the opening month of the campaign after aggravating a hip injury the day preceding the season opener against Munster.

But the 27-year-old has now made a full recovery and says he cannot wait to get back out on the pitch against Leinster, the reigning Magners League champions.

Webster said: “It is just such a relief to be given the all-clear to play rugby again. This first month of the season has been really frustrating because I felt I had regained my sharpness after our pre-season win at Bath.

“So to experience another delayed start to the season has been a blow, but now I’m looking to make up for lost time; starting with the match against Leinster.”

Despite being on the receiving end of a heavy defeat by Leinster at the RDS last month, Edinburgh have an enviable home record against the Dubliners in the Heineken Cup.

Edinburgh have defeated the Irish province in the competition at home in 2000, 2006 and 2007 – when Webster contributed a try in a thrilling win.

Now he is hoping that Edinburgh can replicate that feat in front of a sizeable Murrayfield crowd – swelled by the ‘Kids Go 4 Free’ scheme.

He added: “Make no mistake, we realise how tough the match will be; Leinster are Magners League champions after all.

“But we do have a good record against them in the Heineken Cup and everyone will be doing everything they can to ensure that winning streak continues.”

Edinburgh Rugby Club squad to play Leinster in the Heineken Cup at Murrayfield (Saturday 11 October, kick off 1.35pm)

11 Simon Webster

3 Geoff Cross
4 Matt Mustchin
5 Jim Hamilton
6 Scott Newlands
7 Alan MacDonald
