Given last seasons league placing and the early pre-season results, what size crowd can we reasonably expect for the visit from Munster?

A good start with the friendlies but that is exactly what they are friendlies. They will have got people interested by beating Wasps and Bath however the real season starts on friday evening. I expect a tight match however with the injuries to Ben Cairns and Nick de Luca it will make that win a little bit more difficult. To increase the crowd the team neeeds to keep winning. Munster have won their pre season games against the USA and London Irish so it won't be easy.

There was some talk in the press at the weekend that we may get a bumper crowd due to there being 3000 players in town for the Golden Oldies rugby festival. If so, we could be looking at 5000+ which would be a great start (compared to the 1300 we had for the first match last season).

Good point CG.

For those of us who have chosen to take allocated seat season tickets are the club going to indicate which seats are allocated? It would save a bit of time especially with visiting fans would not be familiar with the seating arrangements.

Old Salt - I believe I'm right in saying that all the ST holders are in the same section.

Last season (even without allocated seats) there were signs and stewards to ensure only ST holders went into that section.

Seemed to work.

The season ticket holders with allocated seats are in the same section. The ones without can sit where they like.

V Ulster 1389
v Ospreys 1326
v Dragons 1412
v Scarlets 1638

The above was our first 4 home gates last season, shouldn't be that hard to double these figures as the SRU seem to be making a real effort to undo the damage from the public brawl that was franchise gate, although anything over 2k per game will be a sizeable and acceptable increase.

Tigerduck

Last year in section 19 we had Leinster supporters (nice chaps) and Glasgow supporters to name but two.

A label on the bottom of each seat saying 2008/09 Season Ticket would help everyone including those that have not decided to take allocated seats.
Travelling from Glasgow via Fife (pick up family) to get to matches does not leave mutch time to grab something to eat and have a refreshment that is why I took an allocated seat. I can see confusion reigning if something is not done.

Thought I'd put in a little aside here. We've just been watching American College football on telly, whilst having our tea in Hooters (- not my choice of restaurant! Don't know why the other half likes it there so much. Razz )
East Carolina Uni beat West Virginia Uni, in front of a crowd of 48,610 people, and the commentator said they were two of the least well supported teams in the league. College football, FFS!!!!!

We can but dream.

There was confusion on friday night.

Season ticket holders with allocated seats could not sit in them because others with match tickets were sitting in them.
The stewards were overwhelmed below the stands for the season ticket area. People who had bought a match ticket were obviously looking to sit in areas 19/21 because the tickets appeared to have seat numbers in that area printed on them.
It did not help that the stewards in the stand in area 23 were telling customers that is WAS NOT ALLOCATED SEATING. Obviously the briefing of the stewards was incorrect.

I'd have to agree with the stewarding on Friday night.... I don't think I saw anyone challenge anyone in the season ticket holders section who possibly shouldn't have been there... let's hope it improves for the next game.

To be fair the stewards were checking. What was eveident was that people were being directed to sit outwith the season ticket area then when in the stands move across. Then as kick off time approached there were too many people for the stewards to handle.

It appeared as if people had match tickets with seats in the season ticket area. A lot of people were refering to their ticket and trying to find a seat within the season ticket area.

I think the fact that the bar was in the marquee behind the North Stand didn't help, the crowd was skewed towards the North end as a result.
My season ticket is unallocated (my mate hasn't got a season ticket...yet!) and we made our way to section 17 (i.e just south of the half way line), no problem getting 4 seats together 5 minutes before kick off.

In terms of confusion though, my mate thought that his ticket was for areas 19/21, but when he read his ticket again it actually said "No access to areas 19/21". I guess a few folk made the same mistake.

Another slight aside, I was at Falcons/Sharks today and the crowd was only around 5200. weather was pretty good too.
