|
Mike Blair admits he is delighted to have been nominated for the IRB Player of the Year award and says he is looking forward to experiencing further highs with Scotland and Edinburgh in 2009.
The scrum half, 27, helped Edinburgh achieve their highest ever finish in the Magners League and also captained Scotland to wins over England and Argentina.
As a result, Blair has been short-listed for the top accolade alongside Wales internationalist Shane Williams and New Zealand stand-off Dan Carter with the winner being announced at the IRB Awards in association with Emirates Airlines in London on 23 November 2008.
Blair said: “I’m really honoured to have been nominated.
“I really enjoyed the season and there were three highlights that really stood out; Edinburgh’s development, the win over England and the second Test victory in Argentina.
“I’m pleased to be put up for the award alongside such notable players.
“Hopefully I can play well this season and experience more wins in Edinburgh and Scotland colours.”
Scotland head coach Frank Hadden backed Blair’s nomination and says the players deserves the recognition.
Hadden added: “This reflects that throughout last year Mike played at a consistently high level and fully deserves to be nominated for this prestigious award.” |

Congrats to Mikey, hope he can keep his form and then the lions will come running!
How good would it be if he won? |

| I see that Shane Williams received the award tonight. If Mike carries on playing like he has so far he should be in with a shout next year! |

Williams got it for a good 6Ns and one try against SA in June - his form has been gash since then. Should have been Blair or Carter. |

Isn't is awarded over the whole year, not the last 10 minutes?? |
