Famous last words but I think he's quite a good ref. Does anyone see where we might fall short against his interpretation of the laws? |
According to the BBC Pearson is still down as the referee. I'm not too keen on him as he tends to used his whistle a bit too often (likes the limelight if you ask me) and is inconsistent at the breakdown more often than not, so I don't know how he'll now cope with the ELVs.
This may sound controversial but I'm also of the opinion that he's decided based on team reputation and form which way he will go with his decisions before the match gets underway. This opinion comes from my memory of games against Lienster and Toulouse in recent times. I'm not hopeful of a positive outcome with him directing the match but I hope to stand corrected at the end of the game on Saturday. |

| Another frustrating performance. There should have been another penalty try but that doesn't excuse poor handling and pedestrian support at the breakdown. |

We were involved in a car crash on our way to the game... have just managed to catch the highlights on tv and I'm not sure if I'm glad to have missed it or not |

Another toothless, rudderless performance. At least the last time Leinster gubbed us at Murrayfield we were putting out a weakened side at the behest of the SRU, thereby rendering the game a non-contest. We can have no such excuses this time. One Leinster supporter I overheard summed up the game perfectly - he said Leinster got their four tries from out of nowhere and then saw the game out from there. And that is basically what happened. Leinster didn't have to break a sweat - so they didn't.
I'm glad I haven't wasted any money on a trip to France. I shudder to think what Castres will do to us out there if this is the best we can do.

Is it not time AR took a leaf out of Sean Lineens book and dropped some of these Prima Donnas.
Lineen dropped Beattie for one game and the next game he upped his game 100%
Only problem is that AR would have to do that to 15 players |

I'm still trying to work out which perfomace was worse - Edinburgh's or the referee's?
And you're right about Southwell, steve t. Is he being paid by a certain Mr di Rollo, to make Marcus look good?
(edited to correct names, as frustrated intoxication had affected me when I posted)

Depressing that... tackling - non existent, even Mikey being left leaden footed. All of their tries resulting from missed tackles.
Referreeing... or lack thereof! A pass that was so forward that even the Sky pundits at Kingsholme were gobsmacked (the Irish bench were all shaking their heads in disbelief as well!). And a deliberate knock on which stopped the ball going to Godman who was clean through under the posts - no yellow card and no penalty try.... and the ref was right there! I thought the Irish and Welsh were the ones who we got nowt from?
Fitness - been aluded to previously, but if you are just playing kick tennis, you have to have guys chasing in case.... at the end it was nnoticeable that Webbo wasn't.
In terms fo dropping players to show them a lesson who would we replace them with? Our bench was far from worrying today for the opposition. I think the strength in depth we have is just that we have 2 players for each jersey. As soon as we move away from first choice our chances diminish.
Bright spots..... scrum looked solid, so thankfully Kerr not brought on!
Despite that I think we will beat Castres away next ... but that won't be enough. |

Houston at 12 should now be the first to get picked. If that means Deluca to 13 or to the bench then so be it.
Apart from that anyone else available should get the chance. Newport showed that you can get experienced pros for reasonable amounts and they will play far better than home grown seasoned internationals. The international team are rubbish anyway.
I'd rather watch a team of foreign players winning for Edinburgh than home grown rubbish. Although losing games doesn't stop the squad players looking down their noses at the minor inconvenience of home supporters. |
