Whilst I don't think that it had any bearing upon the result of the game on Friday, I was concerned by the refereeeing specifically the fact that on several occasions the ref seemed to not be sure of the rules himself. I expected to find it difficult for us the watching public to make the transition but would have expected more of someone refereeing.
Several instances occured but those that spring to mind
1-The receiver in a lineout must stand 2 metres back from the lineout
Several times after Stringer came on he stood at the front of the line out with no other player acting as receiver. On more than one occasion he was the target for the throw.
2-Players are only put onside after a tackle when they retreat past the tackle or the ball has moved five metres away from the tackle
on one occasion the ball appeared to come out of the back of a ruck to strike two Munster players lying off their feet one of whom then got up and ran with the ball.
I remain unconvinced by most of the ELV's. The 5m back at the scrum is the only one that I feel seems to have improved the game.
Anyone else have any thoughts? |
