Right people, time for you to start working out all the options for going to watch the Castres game? Any suggestions?

Doesn't look all that easy to get to, and it all depends on what day it falls on. The options look like:
1) BA flight to Toulouse via Gatwick, train or hire car across to Castres
2) Ryanair to Girona from Prestwick then a 3hour drive back up
3) Easyjet to Paris CDG then TGV or night train down.
Unless anyone's got any better ideas!

Jet2 fly direct from edinburgh to toulouse but dont have timetables available for after september as yet. Think the best idea is to try and organise something through the club for all going to travel together.

When this was tried in the past it was difficult to get enough people to make it financially viable. Too many of the travelling support were restricted as to the amount of time off work they could get, and frequently it was still a lot cheaper to book on the cheap airlines independantly.

Fingers crossed ER will try to do something about an organised trip, but it would be good if the folks that are looking into different routes to get there could post their findings here.

I have a feeling that Jet2 have flights twice a week, along the lines of Wednesday and Saturday i.e. ok for a Friday game but not much cop for Saturday or Sunday

An organised trip sounds good... ER will be taking 30+ folk out there anyway..... could we get 100 supporters to fill a flight...

Toulouse and Carcassonne are roughly the same distance from Castres. BA, Easyjet and FlyBe go to Toulouse from various English airports. Ryanair to Carcassonne from Stansted. The train is 1 1/4hrs from Toulouse and if getting the train from Carcassonne you have to go via Toulouse anyway. Train from Paris is about 7hrs.

I'll try and get an indicative price for chartering a jet but I don't expect it to be cheap.
I can't see ER being too keen to take on the responsibility but it's maybe something we can coordinate through this forum - we can deal with that once we see if it's a goer or not.

Your issue may be a number of fans go to more than one game in a weekend. For example after Agen a lot of flans flew home Saturday, we went to Biarittz and flew home Monday, if there's a decent game in Toulouse this time for example a few folk might consider going to this too.

Chartering a jet - I got a response from airpartner.com, who gave me budgetary prices of £47k for a 142 seat Boeing 737 and £55k for a 228 seat Boeing 757, both for a return flight. We would pay that price regardless of how many people we got on the aircraft. Not included is taxes and fees of approx £34 per person.

That works out at nearly £300 per person, even if we fill the larger plane. Pretty sure I can do it a lot cheaper by a scheduled flight so I think that rules chartering out.

If anyone wants to see the quotation give me a shout.

I know you can charter a Jet2 plane - that's what Scotland did throughout the 6 Nations. Not sure how you do it, or how much it costs, though.....

The quote I got included a photo of a Jet2 aircraft, together with the statement that the quote "...is based on a UK based airline..." so I think it is probably the same broker that the SRU would have used previously. Unless you can go to Jet2 directly.

Maybe the SRU can get better rates.....

Probably not - there weren't that number in Dublin last year and it's easier and cheaper

Dublin's not representative, folk go out for the ML games, we'd drawn them previously in HEC too. So many supporters have been before, Castre is a new adventure. How many were in Agen 250 + the only problem is a sizeable majority probably travelled from places outwith Edinburgh.

Just a note for those planning on going to Castres, last time I got my tickets through http://www.ticketnet.fr which is an official partner of Castres. Is a link at top of site so it is in English not French. Will need to set up an account but this was easy although did have to fax a photocopy of credit card to them but were happy to post to UK address. Able to get tickets early, much before Wasps were allocated any and meant sure had them and could book plane and hotel safely."

sad to say but those charter prices are about right (I only know this as have been involved in chartering for work events before so know rough prices).

Looks like Montpellier is 170km from Castre.....could fly there (somebody does from Scotland but cant mind who off the top of my head!) and hire a car.......or it would appear that you can SOMEHOW get to a "field" in Castre which is known to be an airport ....but only from Orly.....but ive not done enough digging yet to find out exactly how etc etc.

Im off work at the min (back still Bu@@ered!) so will do some further research (all just to keep me amused/busy/active of course!) inbetween Physio torture next week!!!!
