Ulster - Edinburgh 10/02/2017

I'd forgotten there was a round of pro12 games on this weekend.

Presume we're not expecting many changes from last week's side? Hardie might not get released from the national squad.

Change in execution of skills if not personal required. Possibly a Bresler on the bench?

Will Mcinally get released or will he travel to France in the event Ford/Brown pick up an injury at some point?

It's funny that with Hodge in charge, we're rotating even less than we did under Solomons. Nothing to say about the team that hasn't been said the last 10 weeks it's been picked.

In the 6N, at least, this is to be expected.

The Ulster team looks very decent:

(15-9): L Ludik, J Stockdale, D Cave, S Olding, C Piutau, P Nelson, P Marshall;
(1-8): A Warwick, J Andrew, R Lutton, K Treadwell, A O'Connor, R Diack, C Henry (C), M Coetzee;
Replacements (16-23): J Murphy, C Black, W Herbst, P Browne, S Reidy, D Shanahan, S McCloskey, T Bowe.

Could be a very long night indeed.

On rotation we can't rotate really without our internationals and to be honest we don't have a good squad at all. If a player isn't playing for us it's because they aren't good enough.

Fowles isn't playing, but he just re-signed...

I'm sure there's a plan and a pattern in there somewhere.

The pattern appears to be Fowles is not in favour with the Hodge and we're looking for a new head coach but the plan is anyone's guess.

That's a very strong squad they've manage to put out. A bit worried that we might might get a bit of a beating...

The pattern is that you normally play your first and second choice players, which at the moment are Kennedy and SHC. Junior and 3rd choice players get occasional games as opportunity affords. Nothing odd about Scholes sitting out two or three games in a row.

I find it odd that we are signing NSQ suad players. No issue with players like Bresler, Coman or Burleigh who are first choice and bringing something we dont already have, Scholes to be fair has not long signed and possibly we thought he would make a bigger impact, but Fowles just hasnt done much and is no better than Kennedy and SHC, yet gets a new contract. Just bizarre to do that with no new coach in place, if there is a new coach pulling the strings on signings then why is he not putting pressure on to select him?

Fowles is SQ. This might not change your point.

Fowles is SQ through a grandparent - per TheBlack_n_Red on Twitter.

There is not, there would be something odd if he never played for us yet was handed a contract extension.

Ok that does make a slight change but to be honest I am still not convinced he is good enough to be blocking an academy player coming through. He is pretty basic in his play. It just means that for a new coach coming in he has 3 SHs under contract, so really nowhere to go in that department which is crucial and we have struggled of late, no matter what the potential of SHC and Kennedy they are not showing it on the pitch.
