Magnus Bradbury

I was at the U20s game this evening and Magnus Bradbury was there with a brace on his left knee. Has that injury been mentioned elsewhere?

So what is new from the management at Edinburgh Rugby!

Bad one. Lucky to see him this year if that's the case.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Having had 3 ruptured ACLs and 4 meniscus tears I know a wee bit although cant compare my athletic ability to Magnus Bradbury :) .

Meniscus tear is torn cartilage and normally a quick fix if not too bad (weeks). Unfortunately for the ACLs (anterior cruciate ligament) it was about 9 months post op rehab although would expect pro athletes to generally recover quicker, I also believe the reconstruction process has changed a bit since my last op so that may lead to quicker recovery as well, either way unlikely to be on summer tour now I would think. Think the ACL (there is a PCL as well) is the ligament that holds top and bottom parts of your leg together through the middle of knee joint.

EDIT: Should add 9 months was for a reconstruction following complete rupture, unclear if Bradbury has similar or just a strain of the ligament.

Really tough on MB, but IMO for a young lad he has been flogged to death by ER this year and this was shown to be the case during the Ospreys match, clearly injured for last 10/15 mins but played on. We should really be protecting these promising young players by not over playing them and nurturing their careers accordingly.

If he'd torn his ACL I think that's usually a stretcher job.

For mere mortals, maybe.

Not necessarily, being a mere mortal at best, for me the ACL snapping was painful but brief (think of rubber band being stretched and snapped) but I was able to walk off the pitch and the knee only became swollen later on.

Torn cartilage caused me more grief as it blocked the actual joint and did not allow full movement causing a limp.

It is common to damage the cartilage at the same time as injuring the ACL as the knee has moved outwith its normal range of movement.
