Challenge Cup Quarter: ER v La Rochelle (8pm 31/03)

Postby Wottie on Mon Mar 27, 2017 8:10 pm

The French are notoriously poor away from home, but does anyone have any optimism left this season, or think we will get anything out of the game other than a sound thrashing on Friday evening?

Maybe a return to Murrayfield will signal a reversal of our 3 game home losing streak at Myreside? All/ any enthusiasm most welcome!

La Rochelle have not lost a league game since November the 19th...

...In that time we have won only one league game.

I'll take that that as a "no", and a "no" FKL!

Unfortunately La Rochelle are top of T14 thanks largely to their away form and running game, all signs point to a bad night for ER, other than we appear to be a cup team some how performing well in Europe despite no domestic form whatsoever. maybe not glass half full stuff, more the dregs at the bottom of the glass of flat warm supermarket value lager, but a tiny bit of hope maybe.....

No hope at all....Hodge will continue not to rotate the back line and in particular the center pairing of Burleigh and Dean, La Rochelle will open this up like a prop opens a bag of chips. It will be a mess.

Hodge has proven to be out of his depth and the quicker Cockerill arrives and installs a new coaching team the better.

Following a theme........I'm normally a glass half full (or the glass can always be refilled) kind of person, but this season has really tested the limits of my patience. On recent performances, I genuinely cannot see a win for us anywhere on the horizon & fear a real horsing on Friday night. Glad to be sorely mistaken and take large helpings of humble pie though..................

I've examined the chicken entrails, and they tell me that we are going to get royally humped on Friday. You can't argue with the entrails.....

Everythng points that way but until the entrails I still had hope.....

I really do think we will do well to get out of this without an embarassing scroeline. The only hope is that they still have to compete in the league and arent fussed about this cup. Similarly we are burried in the league so have everything` to play for.

Srtanger things have happened but I am not hopeful

You'll up your game. They're favourites but I font see it being a runaway.

I've only seen La Rochelle in 2 games and the thing that struck me was how big/physical they are up front.

That may have been skewed by Uini Atonio who seems big enough to have his own gravitational pull.

He does! Otherwise he'd just float away ;)

it is a cmplex strategy of playing possum for 6 months so they think we are a re-motivated, poorly skilled and coached set of journeymen who dont care if they win.

We will double up by applying rope a dope tactics for the first 60 mins allowing them a few points while running themselves into the ground, then we hope to unleash hell and win it with a hail of late tries.

I am holding onto this hope, after 70 mins it may start to wain slightly.

I find that taking lager/ipa/Talisker in regular doses makes an Edinburgh game go really well by the 70th minute

Unfortunately, as I live "the full Proclaimers" away from Embra I don't get to games as often as I'd like. Some might see that as a blessing these last few seasons right enough.
As it is I have to content myself with a tv screen and quality booze.
