Krasny Yar v Edinburgh Rugby

• Touch Judge 1 Sebastien Minery (France)
• Touch Judge 2 Arnaud Blondel (France)
• Fourth Official Alexei Bryzgalin (Russia)
• TMO Stuart Terheege (England)
• Assessor Les Peard (Wales)
• Citing Commissioner John Byett (England)

Anyone going to Moscow for the game?

I think we will see a pretty strong squad announced. A win, ideally with a BP, would put us in a really good position in the group with two away wins as long as we don't underestimate Krasny like SF appeared to.

Maybe the odd young or fringe player included, with a start for Crosbie who has impressed in his appearances from the bench?

I agree we cant afford to take lightly. However with our squad we don't really have any superstars and the drop off isn't generally huge between 1st and 2nd choice, which probably tells you as much about the first choice as the second!

In most positions I don't think it is clear who our "1st choice" is. You can pick 2 teams and wouldn't know which one would win, other than Dell, SHC and Ritchie you could probably make arguments for all of the positions at the moment.

Berghan Nel
McInally Ford
Dell Rizzo/Marfo
Mckenzie Bresler
Toolis Gilchrist
Ritchie Crosbie
Watson Hardie
CDP Bradbury

SHC Fowles
Tovey Weir
Hoyland Harries
Burleigh Rasolea
Dean Fruean/Johnston
Fife Brown
Kinghorn Bryce

15. Kinghorn
14. Hoyland
13. Johstone
12. Rasolea
11. Brown
10. Tovey
9. SHC

1. Dell
2. Cochrane (capt)
3. Nel
4. Bresler
5. Gilchrist
6. Carmichael
7. Crosbie
8. DuPreez

Mcinally, Marfo, Berghan, McKenzie, Mata, Fowles, Dean, Bryce

Strong team and bench can be no excuses.

Look forward to hearing how Carmicheal and Crosbie go in the backrow and good to see Mata on the bench. Backline has a lot of pace but maybe a little lightweight?

Good to see a strong selection going over.

The backline might be a bit light, but they have pace and they'll be given simmits.

Strong enough team, shouldn't accept anything less than a comfortable win tbh. Glad to see Carmichael get a run, with Mata on the bench we've got a backrow with a good bit of pace.

Don't agree that the backline's size is any worry. Rasolea's a lump enough, and Dean/Bryce off the bench have their fair share of power.

while neither Rasolea nor Johnson are giants, neither are they lightweight. Brown is lightweight but punches way above it Hoyland isn't huge but very compact build. Kinghorn is pretty big. No issue with the size of the backs at all, like the whole team as always its about technique and attitude.

Team picked easily good enough to win comfortably if they turn up knowing they have to work for a win, but to repeat, all about respect for the opposition (ie taking points early rather than running from everywhere) and focus; and attitude. Oh and attitude, did I mention that?

From a Russian posting on another forum, the match will be shown here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SniZvSSWC2Q

It's on at the same time as All Blacks v Wallabies.

Tough choice

But cheers for the link, I'll give it a go

interesting as you say, tks for the link.

I remember Artemyev playing for Saints, good player - and still only 30 so fit and experienced at high level.

Think this is the key quote
"Like most great upsets its genesis lay as much in their casual arrogance of the favourites as in the underdogs’ unquenchable desperation to succeed."

They wanted it more. All about attitude.

There was some chatter about a feed coming out through Krakhozia.

Well, it's an interesting team selection! Things to conclude from it?.....
- Ford seems to be well out the picture
- Johnstone seems be preferred to Dean
- Watson has had remarkably little game time this season
- Harries seems to be dropping out of favour.

Aye, that quote jumped out at me, too, that and the bit that follows, "bludgeoning old-school pack of behemoth forwards that scored all five of Krasny Yar’s tries "

If you have a big radge of a pack that really gives the opposition a tough time you are always in with a shout

especially if there are lots of handling errors, thus scrums, and plenty of lineouts. Forecast is 3 or 4C max, chance of a light shower. So need focus and simple stuff, and keep discipline. Should be fine in possession but don't want a stop start arm wrestle in those conditions
