Given Cockerill has been in SA for best part of two weeks and I assume he was involved in the disciplinary process, the decision must have been made a wee while ago. Classic case of burying the bad news among all the good surrounding the AIs.

Still no detail so hard to draw any conclusions as to it being harsh or lenient or otherwise, but I am still a wee bit surprised at the outcome I did not expect to see him again in an Edinburgh jersey…and back in time to get match sharp for the 6N.

Time to put this in the past and get back up to speed. Players with a point to prove can be an asset.

He will no doubt realise what a lucky boy he has been and I would expect him to perform like a man possessed as and when he is given an opportunity post mid-Jan. Good luck to him. Move on!

Agreed. I suspect it will be better for him and for Embra if he moves on after this season. Shame, never really played to his potential for us due to injuries, call-ups, etc. Barclay an obvious replacement.

I meant everyone move on, not Hardie (but I was ridiculously unclear in doing so!). Got to congratulate the SRU on the timing of the announcement. The team and management being thousands of miles away and unavailable for comment and they even wait for the raft of weekly rugby podcasts to be recorded and released so as to avoid comment and discussion until it's pretty old news. They really are getting their sh*t together these days aren't they?

3 month suspension seems to me a rather harsh punishment. Deliberate and dangerous foul play warranting a red card can get you 4 or 6 weeks, 13 weeks for 'recreational' drug use, much though I personally abhor it, looks well over the top.

Barclay is not really an option at 7, he's short of a yard of pace for that role these days. He played 7 once last season IIRC, he is always fielded at 6 by Scarlets.

Specialist opensides are like gold dust, there are not many good ones around. We have 2 of the best in the NH in Watson and Hardie. I just hope that the firm smack of nanny SRU doesn't result in our losing one of them.

If we keep him, just dream of that back-row of :

Barclay / Ritchie / Crosbie
Bradbury / Du Preez / Miller-Mata
Watson / Hardie

Almost too much quality.

Barclay, Hardie, Watson it’s the back row from Rob Moffat's wet dreams.

.

Shingler plays 6 for Scarlets. Barclay has played mostly at 8 these last 2 seasons because
Scarlets don't have decent 8
They do have other good options at 7 (Davies for starters) and
Barclay is the senior player with experience at 8 previously.
Watching him, he still has enough pace to play 7.

unless you have the full inside track that is rather a bold statement to make.

I don't think it's harsh really. But the issue now is has he been value for the salary paid. He definitely needs to stop flying into tackles the way he does - and perhaps start focusing on being a nuisance at the breakdown. He's had 3 concussions I can remember and each one makes him more susceptible to another one.

John Hardie took a drug test for Cocaine and the result was negative, whatever he has done has not been fully disclosed, I know that both the playing squad and backroom staff are pretty TonySpreadbury off about the handling off this

Obviously timed to coincide with the announcement of the royal wedding so it would go below the radar
