News coming out of Gloucester is that Matt Scott is surplus to requirements there and won’t be offered a contract. With the pending retirement of Robbie Fruean, would Matt be the perfect replacement. Was one of those disillusioned under Solomon’s but now that we have a back line much improved since then, he might be worth a punt.

Saw that he wasn't getting played much, so not too surprised if he does move on. Obviously it'd be fantastic to have a potential Scott/Bennett centre partnership, but I think he'll have more attractive offers.

Wouldn't surprise me if teams did look at him but how much are they willing to pay for Scott who has had his fair share of injuries? Pretty sure he's injured now. We'd be mad not to ask the question though!

Imagine a backline of Fowles, Hickey, VdM, Scott, Bennett, Graham/Hoyland, Kinghorn.

Would be one of the better backlines in the league that. With VdV, Burleigh, Dean, JJ all to come in. Could use another winger or two and with Visser's deal also up ... (one can hope but I think he'll be in France).

Only 27, was very good at times last year for them. If the price is right it would be a good move imo.

We need a 12 not a 13

He was in great form his first season but struggled with injury this season, I would have him back but doubt we will be in hunt in terms of wages.

The obvious upgrade required in that backline is at SH.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Scott started as a flyhalf at Currie, moved to 12 for Edinburgh then out to 13 to accommodate Burleigh at 12.

Bryce off to Yorkshire

Shows you how pish he is if he's being offloaded when we're struggling to cover our propping positions.

Regardless, can we stop repeating the idea that Scott moved to 13 when Solomons came on the go, in order to accommodate Strauss or Burleigh.

The season before Solomons arrived, Scott was playing more often at 13 than at 12.

Does it really matter when, who was coach or who played 12 inside him when he was played at 13?

I think the point is that whilst he is a good 13, on here, most people saw him as a better 12. Subject to his injury situation, I would love to see him back at ER as a 12 (who also plays 13) and if he harbours any desire to get back into the reckoning for the national side, it would be almost the most logical of moves given how we are playing now and with the resources we have lined up at 10.
Bill Mata. The second coming?

Completely agree - both he and Bennett can and have played in both positions - remember also the whole chat around swapping over depending on whether it was a defensive or attacking set / left or right etc etc.

Both can do a job with either number on their back - my personal preference would be Scott @ 12 and Bennett at 13.

Can we afford him? Fruean was a marquee signing, so if he is replaced then I'm sure we can get quite a lot of the way there. Other benefits of being in Stockbridge, better injury management and being under Toony's nose could help bridge the gap, if it isn't all about money.

He also lives round the corner from DentWeezy, so moving away from The Hair could be a blessing too...
