Barclay has had surgery on his Achilles. Rehab will be done by Edinburgh.

Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

I think I recall when he went off against Glasgow that he'd had the achilles problem before the game which means the article is incorrect and that it wasn't sustained in that game. I don't know in these circumstances whether they were entitled to play him. It doesn't sound entirely ethical.

Unusually no mention of projected timescale for recovery.Anyone hazard a guess? It would be a great pity if turns out like Bennett and he misses the first half of the new season.

That's bad news for Barclay and for us. Suppose it gives more opportunities to Bradbury, Richie and Crosbie though.

Heard (on the news?) that he won't play again this year, bit of a blow for all.

FFS Bennett, Fruean and now barclay we should stop making quality signings...Strauss and Blaauw did not come with long term injuries.

More of a former squad member bit of news but Nasi Manu has been called up by Tonga for the first time. Seems to be having marginally more luck with injuries over in Italy.

Really could have done with him for the Champions Cup particularly but the ex Glasgow Warrior curse strikes again.

I suppose it lets Jamie Ritchie play in his best position where he's fantastic. 6. Ritchie 8. Mata 7. Watson, has a bit of everything (except experience).

I suspect and hope that we will see a lot more of Crosbie starting at 6 next season. For me he is a very promising 6 - big, strong, abrasive and surprisingly quick. He would have had a few more appearances this season but for injury. I would start him before Ritchie at 6 who I think will struggle because of his ability to play across the back row but for his hight is a bit light to play 6. A good player but probably more of a 7 next season given Hardie has gone.

I agree. Crosbie is an outstanding prospect at 6 - needs to bulk up a bit and has a bit of an unrefined style but he's young, atheltic, abrasive, no nonsense nasty 6. I read an interview with him in rugby world and he had a chip on his shoulder not being a Edinburgh private school boy so Cockers will love that. Exactly the 6 that both Edinburgh and Scotland need.

Excited to see his progression.

I like Crosby. He does the flash stuff well, but he needs to do the other stuff as well as Richie (not close yet). If he can get close to that he'll be a hell of a player
