Callum Hunter-Hill is away to Newcastle for 2 weeks? I know at the time Edinburgh offered he a deal, Newcastle were also sniffing around him.

Completely agree - both he and Bennett can and have played in both positions - remember also the whole chat around swapping over depending on whether it was a defensive or attacking set / left or right etc etc.

Both can do a job with either number on their back - my personal preference would be Scott @ 12 and Bennett at 13.

Can we afford him? Fruean was a marquee signing, so if he is replaced then I'm sure we can get quite a lot of the way there. Other benefits of being in Stockbridge, better injury management and being under Toony's nose could help bridge the gap, if it isn't all about money.

He also lives round the corner from DentWeezy, so moving away from The Hair could be a blessing too...

I'd be interested to know what insurance arrangements were put in place for Fruean. Most clubs and unions carry insurance to compensate for injury, which will partly cover the "replacement" costs when a player is ruled out for a significant period of time. However, with Fruean's medical history, I wonder what the extent of the cover they were able to obtain was.

I wonder if they’re just getting him to fill in for a few weeks and it suits us to get him a bit of game time as he’ll be needed during the 6Ns
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

The season before Solomons arrived, Scott was playing more often at 13 than at 12.

Does it really matter when, who was coach or who played 12 inside him when he was played at 13?

I think the point is that whilst he is a good 13, on here, most people saw him as a better 12. Subject to his injury situation, I would love to see him back at ER as a 12 (who also plays 13) and if he harbours any desire to get back into the reckoning for the national side, it would be almost the most logical of moves given how we are playing now and with the resources we have lined up at 10.

I would take Scott back in a heartbeat! He is a class footballer who can play either 12 or 13. He is big, strong, fast and can beat a man 1-on-1. When I saw him start out at Currie playing 10 he had a great boot and could pass a ball of either hand and could see a pass. He is also a clever guy and someone who I feel would work well under Cockerill's brand of rugby he is developing here. I felt he was wasted in the latter part of his time with us, as most decent backs we had were under the tutelage of Bradley and Solomons. I got the feeling he felt just running into the nearest opposition player or chasing the inevitable box kicks were not the way to play rugby - he was right! As long he is sound and not being released because of a chronic injury problem then I think he would be an excellent signing for us. Get him in asap!

Makes sense, since with Richie a doubt, we're going to be missing Toolis and Gilchrist for a while and will need Hunter-Hill up to speed.

Bit weird that all of Newcastle's locks for the game are former Scotland U20 players

I can't let that slide... All our backs flourished under Bradley's tutelage. And Scott was the clearest illustration of how a good back coach Bradley was !

But yeah, Scott's comeback would be a brilliant piece of business. Almost a dream. It would be a challenge as he's been on the decline for a few years, but a challenge I would want us to pick and succeed in.

Matt Scott just scored a nice try at the end of the Glaws game against Os - took a very nice line that left a tired defence flat-footed.

Suggestion on the Leicester message board that Luke Hamilton is Edinburgh bound. Would make sense if CdP is heading elsewhere.

Wouldn't really see Hamilton as an upgrade on CdP (quite the opposite) but better than nothing I suppose.

Callum Hunter-Hill had a good 20-odd minute cameo for Newcastle this afternoon. His team lost but H-H showed up well, didn't look out of place at all. He made one barstorming carry which his team mates should have made more of as he was hauled down 5m short.

Was impressed with CHHs cameo for Newcastle, big lad made his tackles, good carry as TH noted and he looked pretty vocal as well. Looks like he needs more higher level game time so couple of weeks at Newcastle should serve him well and then hope we get to see him in an ER Jersey over the 6N period.

According to fissler in the Rugby paper. Cockerill is trying to hijack baths move for Juan pablo socino from Newcastle. Bath still favourites but edinburgh in the hunt for the Newcastle centre.

Socino is a serious player - he'd be an excellent addition as an uncompromising centre but with silky ball skills. Ideally what you hope Chris Dean turns into.
