Odd rumour I thought as he is still under contract at Bordeaux. Another year to go at least.

This says two years, which would cover 16/17 and 17/18, which lines up with us signing him for next season.

Fair enough, thought he was on a longer contract there.

Probably not a project player then, either, if we sign him for next season.

Ben Toolis extends contract for 2 years - great stuff!

Johnny Mathews, Boroughmuir captain and hooker, has been 'called up by Edinburgh Rugby' this weekend. They could just be having a closer look at him, as he's been scoring tries for fun this season and sounds the standout hooker in the Premier league just now.

24 year old SQ Scouser, played for the U18s. Not the biggest hooker but apparently one who can actually hook.

Great news on Toolis, really consistent performer and playing well at present.

Fraser Brown is back in the Scotland group so maybe Cochrane got released back to ER if not we only had Fenton left so we would have needed additional hooker cover for the SA trip.

Sounds like Mastthews must have flown out on Saturday with the squad-but if Cochrane is released on the back of the Fraser Brown call up he might be off to SA tonight?

In my best French *ahem* Google Translate:

This morning the Midi Olympique was a possible departure of Simon Hickey for Edinburgh. Southwest confirms this rumor. According to their information, despite an offer of extension of the UBB, the opening half of New Zealand, would have accepted a superior offer from Scotland. Counting on Matthieu Jalibert and Ben Volavola for next season, the club would have decided not to outbid.

Been searching for Scottish ancestry, no sign so far but would be a strange punt on a 5 year project player - he's Kiwi so there's a fair chance of a tartan granny...

If he does have Scottish lineage would be strange they didn't try and get him when he went to France. We shall see....

Toolis is an excellent re-signing. He is one of the best locks in the comp. Excellent, I feared we'd lose him.

Really pleasing that Toolis is resigned. I wonder if that likely means the end of Bresler here? I'd hope to see more of Carmichael and CHH next season.

Hickey confirmed. Weir and Baggott must be off.

Or Tovey, as likely. Would take his place as the non-SQ player for that position.

Ah, I was remembering that Tovey had another year left.

I don't get why Tovey would leave, I can't see him being made a huge offer elsewhere, he is playing well and is looking like he is cementing his place in the team.

It could be a personal choice right enough, or maybe Glasgow have dibs on him to replace Finn?

Would seem unlikely that Edinburgh would start next season with 3 NSQ 10s though?

Does it make much of a difference? We only have 1 right now, and how close is he to an international squad? Maybe the SRU will be thinking along those lines, but Cockerill almost certainly isn't.
