1872 Second Leg

Postby dolf_lundgren on Tue Dec 26, 2017 4:51 pm

So what we thinking the team will look like?

Obviously Berg is out and I really hope Sutherland is available to play, if not we have a full on crisis in the front row. Other than Bryce do we even have another prop to put on the bench? Assuming we will need to pull someone from club game.

Other than that, back row is a problem but for different reasons, how do you drop Mata or CDP? Obviously Watson is a must and Ritchie is demanding to be picked on form.

In the backs we don't have a huge amount of choice, I would be tempted to swap Johnstone for Dean though.

No idea how the rotations are for other changes but all being equal there aren't many I would make.

In terms of props, process of elimination suggests McCallum and Shields to start, with Bryce and Ross Dunbar (if both fit) on the bench. Given that Bryce can/will only play for 5 minutes of repeated collapsed scrums before going off injured though, we could really, really do with someone else being available.

No chance of Marfo being fit, even to bench?

I think Marfo is closest to coming back. Otherwise might have to call up someone like Kyle Whyte. What about Millar-Mills? Or even Robin Hislop?

Does anyone know if there's any supporters buses organised for the match?

I don’t think we’ll see Bennett this week, I remember Jack Nowell being left out of an Exeter team to play Sarries because their pitch was dangerous to dodgy knees.
If that is the case it would make more sense to wait for the game against the Kings

TBH I’ll be happy with a losing BP, anything else is gravy. Follow that with a big win again the Kings and we could be in a great position. Ulster next two games are against Munster and Leinster.

Someone let down Gary's tyres.

More seriously, there is no way we go into the game as anything other than under dogs.

It's really annoying that where we have been used to dominance in the front row for this fixture, we are struggling to put out full time pros for this match.

Is Sutherland fit?

If he is, we'd presumably be looking at McCallum covering both sides from the bench, with Bryce also on the bench in case of emergencies? Shields starting at tighthead.

If he isn't, McCallum and Shields to start, and absolutely anyone who can tie their boots on the bench. Does anyone have Chunk's phone number?

Apparently Bergs will be up before the beak on Thursday.

He's has two yellow cards before, presumably for scrummaging offences, and the one red at the weekend there.

Cian Healy got three weeks, taking into account a poor diciplinary record, so I guess we have to wait and see what happens to Berghan.

Start at 12 weeks and work from there.

Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Yep, which might also impact the six nations squad.
