Team

1. McCallum, 2. McInally (c), 3. Shields, 4. Toolis, 5. Gilchrist, 6. Ritchie, 7. Watson, 8. Mata
9. SHC, 10. Van der Walt, 11. Van der Merwe, 12. Burleigh, 13. Johnstone, 14. Hoyland, 15. Kinghorn

16. Cochrane, 17. Lay, 18. Millar-Mills, 19. McKenzie, 20. Du Preez, 21. Fowles, 22. Dean, 23. Graham

Our props have to be cursed. There's no other explanation at this point.

Ritchie rewarded for making a great impact off the bench, he's coming into Scotland contention now IMO. Bit surprised that Johnstone stays ahead of Dean, but there's impact from the bench. Hoyland will hopefully play like he did last season at Scotstoun, good to see him back in the team.

Looking at the teams we have the advantage in the back 5 of the forwards and that is an area where we can make big in roads

Is Bryce injured or is he taking the Nick Beavon role?

Scary how fast we seem to be burning through props.

It is indeed.

To be fair: Al Dickinson, Allan Dell, Rory Sutherland, Darryl Marfo, Ross Ford, WP Nel, Kevin Bryce (presumably), Robbie Freuan, Mark Bennett, Tom Brown, Duncan Weir, Jason Tovey. 10 Scotland internationals and a marquee signing injured, 12 (at least) injured in total. Add Simon Berghan (suspended) and George Turner (donated to the opposition) and that's 12 internationals + 2 out for Edinburgh. Only 7(?) internationals missing for Glasgow (not sure if Masaga, Tagive or Alainu'uise are capped).

On a wider point, at least 19 Scottish internationals currently hors de combat, adding RGray and Laidlaw to the above, just over a month til the 6N

You can see the forward battle going the same way as first game. We should dominate the back row battle, win our own ball clean and slow down their ball. Big carries in the 2nd row and with CdP to come on against Fusaro that will only get better! Front row battle might be an issue but suspect we will hold our own. If we can slow the game down, keep hold of the ball and get Mata and Watson to attack narrow channels then we should do ok. They obviously will want to keep ball in play, keep it loose and spread it out wider to bring the likes of Grigg, Matawalu and Jones into the game. Outcome will depend on who wins the battle up front and controls the game. Too tight to call?

All very fair. I would agree all the chat has been about how Glasgow threw it away, little credit given to our play. Similarly there is a sense of entitlement on the other side that because they try to play 7s that they should be rewarded for playing the beautiful game.

Both teams will feel a sense of injustice and go out to prove a point. Rubbing Glasgows noses in it this week would be an outstanding performance from Edinburgh.

Like last week, I see no reason we cant beat them. Wont be easy and if it all lands right for them then they can score a lot of points but I think it will be close again.

Another good piece. Our poor showings in the league and in this fixture (up to the last couple of seasons) have definitely lead to patronising comments

Very clever from big Dick he highlights an expectation for Glasgow to win. He says they should win. He puts pressure on their players and off ours (publicly at least). Their players feel they should win this puts pressure on them too but also motivates our players by giving them a point to prove. It’s a no lose scenario for our guys

Any excuse indeed. We've had the chances to get ahead, need to be more clinical playing into the wind second half...
