Its sad to say but the court case being very public could have an effect too. Its only the opening parts but it doesn't sound good. In particular the point being made of Ulster looking after their players.

I think Jono Gibbes is more a part of the solution. Good news for them and not so much for us. :x

I wonder what I've been reading about over the past couple of days then?

It's frustrating our half of the Pro14 is much harder than Glasgow's.

However I don't think Cockers will see it that way fortunately!

I wouldn’t agree it’s much harder.

It is - Scarlets and Leinster are two of the best sides in Europe with Ulster handy.

Glasgow gave Munster and that's it. The rest of the teams in the league are much of a muchness.

The other conference has Glasgow and Munster with Cheetahs handy.

The reason it's harder for us is that Glasgow are one of the best teams in the league. So there's a big team in their conference that they don't have to play.

A big and probably unexpected difference in Pool A is that Ospreys have been pretty honking this season, include them and there are four teams who have been better than us over the league season for ages. The Cheetahs are much better than the Kings, I suspect that if we were in that conference we'd be scrapping with Connacht for fifth place, on paper anyway.

You tried to promote this on another thread, only 3 teams in conference A have won more then 5 games where 5 have on conference B. Cheetahs seem to be benefiting from home advantage I wonder if we would beat them here.

We'll probably only be able to tell at the end of the season which conference was stronger. I doubt it'll be A

Not disagreeing with you, but I'm not sure this is convincing. You could equally well point out that zero teams in conf A have won fewer than 3 games, compared to two teams in conf B.

Total wins/draws/losses by conference:

A: 44/0/47
B: 46/2/43

Which suggests to me that there's little in it.

EDIT: Some more stats:

Total league points:

A: 228
B: 228

Total points difference:
A: +134
B: -134

Cheetahs have won as many away games as Ulster. Everyone benefits from home advantage. Different perspective on their situation is that their away disadvantage is much greater than any other team (bar the Kings who are in the same boat).

Conference B teams have two gimmes against the Kings. No counterweight to that on conference A.

Conf A is probably tighter in the middle and low parts of the table, as conference B is much more hotly contested in the very hightest part of the table.
Hard to say what is the hardest.
The difference being us probably, I mean a fourth placed team able to compete for the third place. Cardiff and Connacht are not able to do that at the moment and that's the big difference beetwen the two conferences, with also the fact that the second placed in Conference A hasn't got a great amount of points.

Benetton win again today, and remain only 8 points behind us and Ulster. They are not out of contention yet. Our form is good, and I think we'll stay ahead of them, but Ulster must be worried they may not even finish 4th.

Jono Gibbes announces he's leaving Ulster at the end of the season, things not too settled over there at the moment it seems.
