Don't the team who force the uncontested scrum have to play with 14?

now I could be wrong, but I took Mr IPA's post as being a bit of humour as well as a comment on the scrums. Playing with 14 worked out ok last time

McCallum and Fagerson were in the same Strathallan front row. McCallum was switched to loosehead then. He is basically a tighthead. Ritchie was in the back row of the same team.

I take it Strathallan did quite well?

I find it hard to believe (well maybe not so much) that a professional rugby match would be allowed to start with uncontested scrums when it is entirely avoidable save for a bit of bureaucracy.

Talking of props, good article on Bomber Hislop on the The Offside Line, unfortunately not fit when Edinburgh were looking at start of season

https://theoffsideline.com/bomber-hislop-blast-ayr/

Another take away from the article is under Solly anyone not in the match day 23 trained with the academy! Cockerill the complete opposite has the academy lads training with the senior squad with somewhat better results.

Yes.

Unless you can persuade the 4th and 5th officials that George Turner can, indeed, play loosehead prop :).

As with most of the Laws of the game, there are some grey areas. For example, if a team were only to nominate 22 in their match day squad from the get-go, then the Laws could reasonably be interpreted to mean that a broken front row could be replaced under uncontested scrum conditions but if you start with 23 then you're hosed if you break too many front row in one game.

At levels below "elite" rugby, the "cannot replace on uncontested scrums" clause doesn't apply.

This line-up seems to be really a good one. The strongest we can put on the field. And it's quite impressive, even in the front-row, though the replacements are not at the same level.
The look of the back-line is also appealing. I really like to see Hoyland back in the team, and especially Dean and Bennett in midfield. It's interesting to think that we could field an entirely different back-line, though still strong (Brown - Burleigh - Johnston - Fife - Graham).

What a result! Couldn't make it along tonight but even refreshing the Twitter feed was nerve-wracking enough!

Hopefully we'll dodge Gloucester (who are looking likely to be the best runner up) in the QFs but otherwise, happy enough to play anyone else.

Wasn't it just!

Great stuff, does it definitely mean a home QF?

It wasn't a half-hearted French side away from home, they definitely wanted the win. Makes it more impressive.

That was the sort of match that we would have lost under Solly. We are really seeing a much tougher Edinburgh team now, gritty win. Home QF, happy days!

My sphincter muscle has just about relaxed, what a game, up-down up-down, the lead kept changing hands, not a game for the purists but it's the result that counts, reckon the Frenchies has a hell of an KelvinDeaker kickin at half time the way the second half started but the boys all dug deep although I thought Nathan had a big dose of brain fade when he kicked away possession with seconds to go.
Man of the match? Hamish for constant hard work?, followed by the18\20 others just a tad behind him.
When's the draw for the 1/4s?
Another drink anyone? Woo hooooooo.

Where did that crowd come from?
