I'm impressed by that last defensive set. Proper "dog", there. Don't care about the score right now as long as they keep that attitude.

And yet still looked far more of a threat than Fowles who really is average

Quarter-final at home v Cardiff Blues.

Semi-final away against the winner of Pau v Stade if you progress

maybe but he isn't as brain dead. Edinburgh HAD to keep possession at that stage, not give them free ball to run the remaining time down. It frankly summed up SHC for me. All the ability in the world, but no sense of how to apply it; and that's the kinder version

Honestly thought that was a decent result, not good but not bad. We rested some players, went away and pretty much matched them for most of what I saw.

Yeah we still have a lot flaws to work on, and the backs were only in the match for about the last 15 minutes, but those were awful conditions to be fair. The pack got stuck in about the loose and put in some good defensive sets.

I thought Fenton looked like he can be a pretty good player if he can sort his lineouts, Ritchie and Sutherland stood out the whole game on attack and defence, making a point to Toonie no doubt. Hoyland probably stands out in the backs (not a tough job), with a great finish to make his try.

Bit disappointed with how little Graham and Bennett got into the game, but a rainy bog is not going to be the best place for them to shine. And we need a new SH if SHC is leaving at the end of this season.

Fowles was the one that kicked Stade the ball in the last minute last weekend though.

If it was just a choice between the two then I’d rather have someone with all the ability but who has a problem making the right decisions than someone who has limited ability and yet still makes the wrong choices. However it’s about time their limitations were recognised and youngsters like Shiel were given some game time to see if they can do it. I thought both French 9’s were much better and Arthur Coville is only 19yrs old.
