Munster Play Off

Postby Crichton Gunner on Sun Apr 29, 2018 10:33 pm

After the drama of Saturday night, we head to Munster for an unexpected (at the start of the season) play off game. It's a huge achievement for us to have qualified, and we're no doubt seen as outsiders for the game. But having won more league games than Munster, and having won 8 of our last 9 league games, we shouldn't lack confidence going into this one. While it's nice in some ways to have no great expectations on us, we mustn't see this as some kind of bonus game. We need to go there looking to take the game to them, and we'll see what happens. They are beatable, and we have to believe that.

Playing a strong Munster side at Thomond in a meaningful match is another good measure of where we have got to. It will be a good experience and exactly the sort of match we should be aiming to win as we develop over the next couple of seasons.

That is not to say we should not be going out to win this one. The season is already a success for us so expectation and pressure off a bit, but that gives us the opportunity to go out and give our all and see where we end up.

Think we play a similar style to Munster should be a cracking match.

any chance the club with organise a supporters trip? Not much time for the club to organise or fans to plan but there's bound to be a few people interested. I'd be tempted depending on price and if it was a day or overnight trip

Yep, Sky Sports and Alba.

Looked into the trip, but return flights to Dublin were £170 a pop, then hire car, fuel, hotel in Limerick. For two of us reckoned it was looking like best part of £600-£700 before food & beer. Sky Sports it is, this time.

It would appear not. Email today (missing the formatting and colours):

Edinburgh will compete in the Guinness PRO14 Final Series for the first time ever and we want to help you get there to support Richard Cockerill as they write a new chapter in the club’s history.

There are other major events taking place in Limerick this weekend, so we understand travel and accommodation is difficult - but we want as many Edinburgh fans at Thomond Park supporting their city.

Here are some options for you to consider:

Shannon
Aer Lingus fly direct from Edinburgh to Shannon, which lies just 30 minutes by car or 50 minutes by bus from Limerick.

Ennis Bus Station is just a short walk from the terminal building and bus number 343 goes to Limerick Bus Station

Cork
Aer Lingus fly to Cork from both Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports.

The bus to Limerick takes around two and a half hours, changing in Cork. Take the number 226 from the airport and 51 from Cork Parnell Place Bus Station.

If you choose to drive, you can do the journey in under two hours.

Ferries
There are two ferry routes operating between Scotland and Northern Ireland offering a combined total of 84 sailings per week.

Thomas Cook sport there, telling you less than you could find out in five minutes with google.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

So is anyone heading to Limerick for this match? We're bussing it down from Dublin Airport on Saturday morning, and heading back to Dublin the same evening (unfortunately - no night out in Limerick this time).
Any suggestions for a pre-match pint?

From the Munster forum. Gird your loins.

Our ref for the game is, once again, Nigel Owens. He is joined by his two lovely assistants Ben Whitehouse and Ian Davies.

Assuming no new injuries doubt we will see any changes from the Glasgow match other than Dean and Kinghorn coming back in.

Lay, McInally, Berghan, Toolis, Gilchrist, Bradbury, Ritchie, Mata

SHC, Van der Walt, VDM, Dean, Johnstone, Fife, Kinghorn

Cochrane, Dell, Nel, Carmichael, CDP, Fowles, Weir, Bennett
