Champions Cup 18/19

Postby biffer on Sun May 06, 2018 12:02 pm

Nice to be writing this topic.

Qualifiers so far
AP - Exeter, Saracens, Wasps, Newcastle, Leicester, Bath, Gloucester
Top 14 - Montpellier, Racing, Toulouse, Toulon, Lyon, Castres,
Pro14 - Glasgow, Leinster, Scarlets, Munster, Edinburgh, Cardiff plus either Ospreys or Ulster

Seedings depends on the playoffs in the respective leagues, but some are set as below

Pot 1 -
Pot 2 -
Pot 3 - Leicester, Edinburgh
Pot 4 - Gloucester, Bath, Cardiff, Ospreys/Ulster

Basically we’ll get one of Exeter, Saracens, Wasps and Newcastle, and one of the French teams who make the last four of the playoffs - I’ll be surprised if that’s not one of Montpellier, Racing, Toulouse or Toulon. Then anyone from Pot4.

I don’t really care, I’m just glad to be back in it. Particularly after yesterday, which has persuaded me that we can compete in an important game against one of the clubs at the top table in Europe.

Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Newcastle, Lyon and Cardiff please.

Now that's sorted we can plan the home/away splits!

Saracens, Racing and Gloucester would be the nightmare draw. Although all the French teams look very strong.

Hope we avoid Racing-be nice to visit one of the hotbeds of French rugby and somewhere other than Paris.Toulon or Toulouse sounds good-and mid_October please!
Newcastle and Ulster would make for easy trips.

Bath got the last AP slot which means Gloucester take the 20th place as Challenge Cup finalists (or winners) and Pau have missed out. I think!

Chances are that any/all draws would be tough. Would love to play a few teams we haven't played before (or, at least, not in recent times).

A group with Exeter, Toulon and Castres, for instance, (and assuming that configuration of teams is even possible) would be a massive test for us, but could be cracking games.

As Biffer said though, what a great topic to be able to discuss!

Nice to have something to look forward to, rather than tomorrow being Monday.

Glasgow will be the pot 1 team everyone wants.

It would be good to get Newcastle as it would give us a chance to take an away support, something we don't really have.

Somewhere in the south of France please. Not Coventry or north London.

Find out a lot more about seeding this weekend. Given the likely way it will work out, Racing, Newcastle and Bath would be good.
