Attendances

Postby biffer on Sat Dec 08, 2018 7:28 pm

So far this season

Connacht 5239
Benton 4392
Cheetahs 4555
Toulon 7056
Scarlets 5037
Newcastle 6803

Average 5513

Not bad, going in the right direction, and that’s with three of the least attractive teams in the Pro14 for our home games so far.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Good turnout of Falcons fans last night too.

The attendance may well have been better if the weather wasn't as awful. Again a symptom of there being no pressure to buy a ticket until the last minute.

Agreed, and a good reason we should not default to Murrayfield after next season other than being forced to due to competition rules.

Figures are slowing moving in the right direction, but that was one very depressing lack of noise from the Edinburgh support last night. The Gold section that i sit in you can hear a pin drop;happy clappies and folks that are terrified to clap or raise their voice past their normal range. This was particularly apparent last night. It was even discussed how quite the Edinburgh support was on the Newcastle site, on the whole their support was very well behaved and loud; the exception was a loud mouthed clown behind me that slagged everything Edinburgh, and even managed to spill beer on me.He got the message and thankfully moved away to the upper stand second half.

Come and stand at the other side. We get a bit going.

When we get the stands out the back we.might.bget something going, but it takes years. We need something to hok onto and chant about. Not a song, a chant. It needs to be be something people can join in with the first time they're there. So a well known tune and repeated words - six to ten maximum.

But in all honesty, let's get them through the gate first and get them making noise later.

I think ‘E - din - brugh’ is the best chant I’ve heard and people get into it. It actually has some energy about it rather than a lot of the others across Edi & Scotland.

2 times it started up and everyone really got into it and created some noise is Challenge cup final at the Stoop and our section away at Montpellier.

Think we need to get it going at home. Have heard some kids try to chant it naturally... that’ll get the newbies involved as they don’t know what gunners is or why.

Simple, has energy and easy to join in.

Certainly need something, even in the cheap seats its deadly quiet.

The Duhan VDW chant never really got going but had potential.

Few mentions of the new stadium in this tread so far. Petrie reported that, all being well (referring mainly to Planning) they would be breaking ground in October of this year. It would appear that all is not well and I wonder what the programme is for the project to be available for the start of next season? Hopefully it didn't need an October start! Surprised there has been no information out in the circumstances.
Bill Mata. The second coming?

TBH Biffer i would, but unfortunately my wife likes sitting in the Stand.Think i was a bit TonySpreadbury of as we have had smaller crowds and made more noise. My wife would agree,if everybody was as vocal as me the place would be bouncing.Your spot on ,a smaller stadium will definately help; Kingston park on Sunday will reinforce that point, but you know what,i will still shout my support whenever i go,been doing that for 17 years and hopefully in the future we will get the Edinburgh crowd chanting loud and proud as well.

The "We love salt n sauce" chant was good if a bit niche, but it is coming up to the time of year to dust it off again.

For fans of mid 90s TV comedy shows - MaTa Ta Ta Ta Ta Ta Taaaaaa - in a Vic & Bob Shooting Stars style might work perhaps not at every carry as the crowd will be hoarse by HT and there is every chance it will only be valid for one more season.

I often leave with little voice left but in general I think we have a large element that are just miserable SteveWalsh combine that on Friday with jamesmatthew weather and the tempo of our play in the first half in particular and there was little to raise a cheer about.

True on all 3 points, but what TonySpreadbury me off is that most visiting supporters seem to have been out chanting us in recent times, agree with you that most people who go, dont support. This has been a big problem for years, but its going to be a long process to get Edinburgers to get behind the team, its the same if you go to a concert or such like, they seem to have their bums araldited to the seats and their hands tied behind their backs and their voice boxes removed.

Hopefully Sunday at Kingston Park will see (hear) a lot more noise from the Edinburgh fans. I always think an away trip prompts supporters to shout more as its a day out.Certainly I remember raucous support at The Stoop three years ago-ok we did have about 3000 Edinburgh fans there apparently-and hopefully on Sunday there will be a good 1500/2000 going down.

Given our SA contingent how about a battery of vuvzelas they will make some noise and everyone loves them

Agree it is seems easier to get some noise going at away fixtures (took a good crowd to the HC semi as well as I recall hazily if not correctly) perhaps a combination of the euphoria of an away trip, a few extra beers over the day to lubricate the vocal chords, rather than the rush from work to the ground. Plus knowing at the next match you probably won’t be sitting next to the same folk again perhaps feel more free to give it laldie. Same works in reverse when others come to us which combined with the empty stadium acoustics and it is all a bit meh.

My wife reckons I make enough noise for both of us, pretty sure I don’t but I do my best.

One of my greatest achievements, many years ago, was to suggest the use of "Ooh! Ah! Ed-In-Bra! " on this very forum. Carruthers Snr (it was that long ago) advocated it on the tannoy during a match. I don't think I ever heard anyone chant it...

Anything rhyming with "boo" might be worth a try - "Duuu" for DvdM; "Shoooooo" for big Pierre. That'd fit in with the typical Edimbougeois attitude. Or, as the great Howard McKenzie once suggested, "Had yer tea! " (repeat to fade).

Love the idea of vuvuzelas, if not the sound.
