ps I have never witnessed two such brilliant off loads provided by Ritchie and big Bill and take a bow JJ for taking the ball.

He has become a collosus, sadly we won’t even get close to what he will be offered, just have to hope he likes it here as much as Nel does.

Probably true. Although an extra 5,000 on next Friday's gate would mean another £100k to play with. Another 10,000 of the casual fans who mobilise for the 1872 and it's £200k. Get the win and a home knockout match and the target would be topping the 38,000 who came to the Toulouse quarter final. An extra £800k ticket revenue there (less costs of staging the match) might help to cover some of the differential between what he's currently on and what he's going to be offered in the near future. Basically get as many punters through the door as possible to keep Mata. You could call it the bums on seats for big Bill campaign...

Just arrived home from Toulon. First time I have ever been tear gassed at a rugby game. But what a night. I have no voice left. Totally hoarse. They put the pride back in Edinburgh Rugby tonight. The Toulon fans were great and this was a fantastic trip I will never forget.

Due to a dead slow and stop bus back from Embra missed the match build up, what happened before the match that needed tear gas? Did they run ooh of pies an vin rouge?, we sat down and got the telly on the right channel to see us go 5 down.
Due to wendyball being on other screens in the club we didn’t get commentary either.

I think Biffer said it was the yellow jacket protesters doing their thing, they do protests well in France, no mucking about.

Great result in an intimidating venue, just shows how far our guys have come with their confidence and mental strength. If we are being honest this Toulon team is a pretty poor team despite the names on the team sheet but as the saying goes you can only play what is in front of you and we thumped them. I also think we weren't as good as we could have been and left a few points on the pitch, a few bad bounces didnt help, but as we grow in confidence we will create and take even more chances.

I thought Cockerill got the tactics spot on again, we ran them ragged by keeping the ball in hand and in play, going through the phases and wait for their big, unfit guys to struggle to get back into defensive shape before striking. We didnt give them the ball to play with and kept their strike runners out of the game apart from their consolation try at the end of the game. Pyrgos ran the game from 9 and his kicking and decision making was perfect, what a difference he has made to the team! He brings control and calmness, which everyone feeds off, and executes the gameplan excellently. Our kicking in the second half was spot on and it almost looked like we were deliberately aiming for the sandy 'dead spot' in the corner so as to put pressure on their back 3.

There were no failures in our team just the odd mistake here and there which is inevitable in any game. Everyone was spot on and played their part in the win, it would be unfair to pick some out as better than others. However what has improved is our confidence and our willingness to execute and show off our skills. It is great to see the guys go out with confidence, to try and be their best, play good rugby and look to be enjoying themselves. Well done the coaching team.

One thing that is comforting is how different the tactics were to either of the Glasgow games, and especially the first. There seems to be a tactical flexibility now where Edinburgh vary the gameplan according to the opposition. All built on the pack being good of course which gives Edinburgh the platform to vary the play.

To some extent Friday is a bit of a test for how the Edinburgh public respond. This is one of Edinburgh's biggest games in a long time, against marquee opposition which they have a very good chance of beating, albeit still in the pool stages. If we do not get a big crowd for this it would be disappointing.

Kudos to those who travelled. I was disappointed I could not go for personal reasons, but those that were there made themselves heard on TV.

All said and done, its great to see the positive comments on this forum and others, just goes to show what happens when discipline, fitness and a winning mentality are etched into the guys.Take a bow all the coaching and ancillary staff and of course the players themselves. This has been a long time coming; and we are still learning, but things are definately heading in the right direction.Come on Edinburgh lets do this on Friday night.

Isn't it odd to discover that we really do have a Plan B-and finally implement it away at Toulon of all places!
Well done all involved-including the travelling support-great t hear them make so much noise throughout the match.
Funny how it only takes a game or two to chance your perception about players-just looking at our centre combinations I'm not sure if we'd swop Dean and Johnstone any time soon for Scott and Bennett-and Socino and Taylor looked pretty promising last week so maybe we'll soon be like Glasgow and have six centres seriously pushing for a start each week.
I wonder if we can hit the 10k mark for Friday's attendance after the rave reviews coming through for last night's performance?

For those of you with BT sport, the replay's available now! What a match!
Tip for future French games... beer clears tear gas out of the throat
Have to say, did the Thomas Cook Club package this time and it was very well done... will look out for that in future!
