Awful news about one of Scotland's greats.

Thats just sh1t! I remember sitting beside him in an airport terminal thinking it couldn't be Tom Smith because he looked pretty small for a prop. Watched him play the next week and he killed his opposite number, who was twice his size, in the scrum. A real powerful guy who knew exactly what he was doing in the scrum and was technically probably the best there has been, not just for Scotland but for the Lions. Hope he beats it.

Underrated coach as well. The Embra pack started struggling for a while after he left.

Nice to hear a bit of positivity. Greats new for Tom, I have to say I was fearful opening this thread.

So sad, one of the greats as a player and as a person.

Not often you get a player who is as technically strong in the set piece but with great hands a a very good 7s player.

Understated and just oozed class.

Dreadful news. Hadn't realised things had deteriorated so much.

All time great as a player, and more importantly, by all accounts a great human being.

Players like that are very rare indeed, Scotland had two in relatively quick succession in David Sole and Tom Smith.

This is really very sad news.
