Edinburgh v Cardiff Friday 28th Feb

Postby Tichtheid on Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:14 am

My guess at the line up

Schoeman, Wilemse, Berghan, Gilchrist, Carmichael, Haining, Crosbie, Mata
Pyrgos, van der Walt, van der Merwe, Scott, Bennett, Sau, Hoyland
Fenton, Bhatti, Nel, South, Barclay, Shiel (please let it be Shiel), Taylor, Hickey

I’m not entirely sure we will have both tightheads back, but what the heck. It was said earlier in the week that Scott would be available, I really hope so. I though South did enough to stay in the 23 if Gilcho is with us

Hoping / assuming they're bei g extra cautious with Scott given his history. Good to see Dean back and a welcome start for Charlie. Taylor and Johnstone a potentially explosive centre partnership.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

good team/squad. At last some sensible rotation in the front row, but is Cherry injured? Willemse is a liability.

Very good to see Sheil start and hope he grabs his chance, could be a while before his next one if he doesn't.
Its a good game for him to start, better conditions that the last couple where Pyrgos showed why he is no1 and Groom why he definitely isn't

Showing as unavailable

David Cherry, Mark Bennett, Matt Scott, Jack Blain, Fraser McKenzie, Stan South, Darcy Graham, WP Nel, Rory Sutherland, Stuart McInally, Ben Toolis, Jamie Ritchie, Hamish Watson, Magnus Bradbury, Blair Kinghorn

Assuming first 7 to graham are injuries.

Good squad for tomorrow. Look forward to seeing what Sheil can do when starting. Think he has followed a similar pattern to Graham a couple of seasons ago being drip fed in. Hopefully follows a similar trajectory from now as well.

Good looking squad, felt quite optimistic until I saw Clancy was reffing. Hopefully we can be accurate and ruthless enough to take him out of the equation!

Aye, we did just that earlier on in the season, though I can't remember now who it was against.

Cardiff have a decent backrow which is a pain, as the breakdown is usually an area of contention in interpretation. As long as he is consistent, that's all we need.

We could hope for an ‘accidental collision’ with Clowncy and rendering him unfit? Just give him 5 minutes and bash. 8)

Glad to see Gilchrist with the armband. Let's hope there's a statement of intent from him with Murrayfield in mind.

Here's the Cardiff Blues team, with some last-minute changes due to injury:

Dan Fish; Jason Harries, Garyn Smith, Max Llewellyn, Aled Summerhill; Jason Tovey, Lewis Jones
Brad Thyer, Kristian Dacey, Dmitri Arhip; Seb Davies, Rory Thornton; Will Boyde, Olly Robinson; Josh Turnbull (C)

Replacements:
Kirby Myhill, Corey Domachowski, Keiron Assiratti, Ben Murphy, Nick Williams, Jamie Hill, Ryan Edwards, Ioan Davies

Good to see the Two Jasons back again. Amos and Lewis-Hughes are two of Cardiff's biggest threats; horrible for them to miss out at the last minute, but hopefully it's something we can capitalise upon. Boyde's no slouch, though.

Frustrating, great start from Cardiff. I think we're reacting well though.

Wow, as I type that – George Taylor reacts incredibly well there. What a try! Learning from our mistakes already.

(If you didn't see it, Taylor charged down a Dan Fish clearance, handled the looping ball extremely well, and scored under pressure from Lewis Jones. Conversion missed by Hickey.)

To me, our one-up runners are too static, so we're not putting enough pressure on the Blues' D. We need them to be running into contact. It's Shiel's first start, though, so maybe that's why? Ball retention is crucial, after all.

Nasty fall for Taylor, and he walks off with assistance to applause. Dean comes on.
