Did Dougie Wylie no play for Edinburgh? I can't really remember.

Hodge is a good call - and probably would be Cockerill's choice :)

Might still plump for Mossie.

Not sure about Wylie, but don't think so

What about a best squad if we can work out how many there should be per position?

Very sad news, but it’s a different Dougie to the one I was talking about, Wylie is a former Stew Mel, Scotland and I’m pretty sure Edinburgh stand off, but maybe he played for the South.

Morgan played at scrum half

for reasons beyond my comprehension I had been conflating the 2 in my head and as I read the posts. I'm blaming the lockdown or premature senility on my part. Apologies to the board and especially Mr Wylie.

Thinking back hopefully more clearly now I don't remember much if anything about Dougie Wylie. Morgan as you say was a scrum half, couple of Lions tests to his credit I think

Very sad re Dougie Morgan. 73 nowadays is not old.

Doug Wylie was a good 10/12 who was probably unlucky to be playing at a time of firstly Rutherford then Chalmers, so very few chances. he would probably have had 50 caps now. Ironically, given the link to Dougue Morgan, he was a bit like Graham Shiel in my recollection.

I always thought of him playing for Stew Mel, but according to Wiki he played for Selkirk. Its odd how players used to travel long distances and from cities to play for Borders clubs but the reverse now happens.

I can assure you Dougie Wyllie's entire playing career was with StewMel and he had nothing to do with Selkirk whatever Wiki says.
The late great Dougie Morgan's death highlights a big flaw in this whole thread anyway. Most of the suggested teams above only cover the particular poster's own memory.Remember Edinburgh stretch back to 1872 ! Ok no one is expected to know anything about players 100 years ago but just for starters most aren't including the likes of Andy Irvine,Morgan, The Calder twins, the three Milnes,Hastings brothers etc etc etc.
Ok I know this is just a bit of fun during these awful days but a bit of perspective here.Perhaps just acknowledge it as a pro era selection (ie post 1995ish?)
