Glasgow v Edinburgh - 22 Aug 1715KO

A match thread. :)

Not sure how Glasgow will treat the match but i think we need to put out a strong team to try and secure a home semi and get up to speed for the euro QF. We will have a few options/combinations especially in the backrow and expect to see changes over the two games but i will take a punt at

I don’t think that will be too far out, but would Pyrgos no start ahead of Groom?

Team above looks good, but agree about Pyrgos over Groom. Sounds like Glasgow are down a few players (including Nakawara) and are going for someone “experimental” at FB (rumours on the Weeg site that it’s Huw Jones, which would be...”brave”) so I think we have the advantage on paper.

To be honest, I’m expecting a pretty poor game with plenty of (understandable) rustiness and mistakes. Games where we are (possibly) expected to win and/or have the pressure on us are also the sort that give me chills, so this could be as much, if not more, of a mental test than a physical one.

Any sort of win will do though!

Toolis out after surgery, bad news.

Cockerill keen to stay, good news.

I'm not expecting a classic either. Pre-season rustiness and there will be all the fussy penalties due to the new breakdown interpretations.

I don't know about pressure but our players should absolutely be more motivated than Glasgow's. We do actually have something to play for as a team and individuals will want to put their hand up for selection for the knockout games as well.

I don’t think anyone expects it to be pretty but at the moment a win, any ugly win will do for me so far, then let’s get on to improving the game to normality, although that might be a while away. Roll on Saturday. :D

Potential banana skin so it's down to focus. Cockerill will attend to that.

Quite flabbergasted by some of the glasgow fans giving it "treat it like a preseason friendly" pretty poor

I kind of get what they are saying to be honest. They have very little to play for, new coaches and players, and they are getting their excuses in first if it goes wrong!

We are totally different on all fronts. We really have to win.

Ne interesting to see who plays with Gilcho in the 2nd row, Id be temtped with Fraz, he will 100% have the right atitutde.

The rest of the team pretty much picks itself. Unless Cockers decides to split some game time, back row we could pick any combination and still be strong. Centre is once again the worry, we have decent players but need Taylor and Bennet to realy step up. Also depth in the back 3.

The injury list is disappointing, I thought we were firing on all cylinders bar BBT.

However, I liked what I saw of, err, Sau, and it's a big chance for Crosbie to give Cockers a real headache, same with Davidson, he will want to prove a point.

It so good to be talking about a game again!

Going forward ball in hand, he's fine. Pre lockdown, still a huge amount to learn defensively and particularly lost under the high ball. Hopefully some intensive coaching has been going on.

Perhaps a run at fullback for Glasgow would help . . . . .

Sheil v Horne if both get on could be fun.

Decent squad given the surprising number of injuries, 3 2nd rows down! good chance for the young lads though.

Given nobody has played for at least 5 1/2 months it is quite extraordinary the number of players-all vying for the 23-out due to injury. And Glasgoe also have a long list of "unavailable"-ie not all injuries.
Imagine if they'd been playing matches1 Does presumably show how so often injuries occur just as much in training.I wonder if the long lay off partly accounts for that|?

Definite shame about the injuries - was looking forward to seeing Darcy running riot, but Duhan will just have to do enough of that for the both of them! Hopefully we can really heap the pressure on Jones at FB (but no stupid aerial challenges eh lads - keep the heids).

Starting packs both look good, but what a luxury to be able to have the likes of Schoeman, Berghan and Haining in reserve to come on and smash some tired bodies when needed.
