Shiel will be fine, how he goes will depend on those in front of him, but it is a big chance for him, tbh he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Shiel! vdW, Hoyland, Taylor, JJ, Darcy, Kinghorn

Wilemse, Sutherland, McCallum, Davidson, Maggie, Haining, Nutton, Dean.

6/2 bench, no Duhan, no Groom or Pyrgos

You wonder if Frostwick and Chamberlain are isolating..

Hopefully not,

Unavailable due to injury: Duhan van der Merwe, Mark Bennett, Nic Groom, Henry Pyrgos, Lewis Carmichael, Fraser McKenzie, WP Nel, Roan Frostwick

You need a replacement scrum half, assuming Cockers is going for 6/2 without external factors influencing his decision, then choosing Dean over Chamberlain wouldn't be overly controversial, but it does leave us without recognised cover at 10.

So if VDW goes down...Kinghorn to 10 presumably?
Then who at 15-Graham with Taylor or Johnstone on wing and Dean at 12?
Out of all the absentees biggest miss to me is VDM-on a very hot day made for open running rugby he could have been devastating (and probably have coped better with the conditions?)

Both Hoyland and Graham can cover 15.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Chamberlain has traveled as 24th man and Frostwick has a foot injury.

From the way Jason Leitch talked about it, it sounded like it's a player who's had very little/no contact with the First XV recently, so definitely not any of the guys who'd be near the 23

Oof, pressure was on in that half. Can't play too loose with those Bordeaux backs.

Not doing my blood pressure any good, off to find my inhaler before the second half, cannot give them freedom to run at our line in the second half.

Outstanding from Darcy Graham. I am surprised we are still in this.

Two knockout games in a row that we’ve demonstrated that we were good enough to win and screwed it up somehow. Disappointing but on the other hand it demonstrates we deserve to be in at the hard end of tournaments.

Frustrating but Bordeaux are a strong team.

Well that was frustrating. We were still on the bus for 30 mins but got ourselves into a position to win it, yet more howling errors costs us an important game.

Desperately looking for plus points, Shiel should be our first choice nine from now on

Thought Chico played very well.
Disappointing to lose after they got themselves back into it after such a disastrous start, but I feel strangely positive: http://www.edinburghgunners.org.uk/matchday/reports

Yes oddly I agree. Some good individual performances after a shocking start.Tremendous all-round game from Shiel which could well be the making of him.
At least now a week off -rather than a quick turn around and another away trip to Bristol-so perhaps we'll be better rested and have a few more players availble for selection for the start of the Pro 12/14 in (hopefully) a fortnight.
Worrying about Mata though, suspect that might be a nasty one but here's hoping.
