Looking forward to watching Savala. He was apparently a stand out in the A team games.

I'm guessing TBC will be VdW if Hastings gets through today.

Seems potentially significant Kinghorn is at 14 and Hoyland 15?

McCallum with 60 appearances is interesting - he's been given his chances!

Great to see Shiel start again. Come on Charlie have a stormer!

Odd selection on positions of Kinghorn and Hoyland . The latter to me is a stronger winger than he is full back ? Puzzles by Bennett in subs Look forward seeing how Savala goes which will put pressure on Shiel to step up which may do him good . Ally Miller was outstanding last week so expect home to have an impact off the bench .

He has, and generally always done well in my opinion. Well enough to suggest he's worth backing as competition for Nel to start rather than bringing in the likes of Atalifo and De Bruin.

As soon as he's seen as competition for Nel he's going to be away with Scotland and we'd still need the likes of Atalifo though.

That is true. He just seemed on a very strong trajectory when he won his Scotland caps and seems to have either stagnated or gone backwards.

Iirc he was good the tail end of Hodge's reign but was capped as a "we don't have any tightheads in Scotland" with I presume two of Nel/Fagerson/Berghan out and then Welsh came in the next three weeks. Rather than he looked international class.

It's just odd he's had so many games! If you asked me to guess I'd have said half that number.

Minutes is probably more relevant now, if he has been getting 5/10 mins then it’s not much of a chance. How many had he started?

After the performance of Hastings yesterday, Im not as confident we will get Jaco back from Scotland now.

If not then it woudl be interesting to see Kinghorn cover at 10,although maybe more likley Pyrgos.

Sucha shame for Chamberlain, although gives Savala a chance too. It would have been good to see Savala get a run of games in S6, just to settle him in. A big chance with little pressure for him though.

I see McCallum is finally being listed as a tighthead on the club site, but he is having to cover loosehead again this evening. This won’t exactly help his development.

I can see the switch to tighthead might have taken more time than we’d all have wished, but he needs to get a run of games in that position if it is to become his specialism.

There are very few, if any, who can play both sides at the highest level now.

Would be interested to see the split in those though. How many starts v subs (and what mins), how many per year. and perhaps most importantly LHP v THP.

He was capped in what 2018? It feels as though he played a lot more pre 19/20 season but that could just be my mind tricking me.

Just found a beeb article. He had played 46 times before the 3rd of January 2019.

Bennett is another kicking option as well, isn't he?

I don't think GT rates him terribly high but I would think Scotland will keep him around as a 3rd 10 due to the opposition. We are likely to kick more v France and VdW @10 and Hogg @15 is probably a better combo for that game plan should it come to it.

Is he allowed to play twice is 3 days? I remember back in the early 00's there would be subs from the internationals play on the Sunday for their clubs but not seen it in a while.

Now confirmed that it will be Blain on the bench instead of Jaco.

Surely the pecking order wouldn't change after one performance anyway? Did Hastings pick up a knock perhaps?
