My son and I have been season ticket holder since God was a boy. We had seats on the half way line at Murrayfield, Myreside and Murrayfield again.

I logged onto my SRU ticket account at 9:45. I kept refreshing until I got into the Edinburgh season ticket purchasing at 9:55, to find there were hardly any tickets left. We have ended up with pretty poor seats at a premium price.

Given that I was in even before the official start, how on earth did I then find all the good seats gone?

There aren't any good seats, outside of hospitality :( all seats seem to have some sort of restricted view. Aside from the pillars and low roofing, there are metal barriers left, right and centre. I used across the aisle from the players at Myerside, they were never harassed, but there's fencing all around them now, on the other side high fencing around the tunnels, and fencing at the front too, presumably to guard against pitch evasion! Only looked at it closely before tying to get tickets, and I don't like at all. And as for loyal gold season ticket holders not getting priority so they can continue to sit together...

We will miss Murrayfield, we were spoiled, the atmosphere is what you make it too, been at plenty games there when there was plenty of noise when there was something to cheer about, as it should be. I'll give it this year, but may not be back, might watch super 6 instead.

For all its drawbacks, I also liked Murrayfield and think the spectator experience at Minifield may be poorer in terms of view, toilets etc.

I know others disagree, but having been there year in year out, good seasons and bad, and been at the proverbial Zebre matches on a freezing January, I am unimpressed that long standing fans (regardless of ticket type) were not given any priority at all.

Like you, I'll give it a year and see what happens. But as my ticket price more than doubled (over 60) I thought long and hard about renewing given I live 2 hours away. If the rugby does not pick up, there is no way I'll be paying those prices and make that effort for a poor offering on the pitch.

Having had a moan, from an Edinburgh Rugby perspective the demand seems to have been good.

Same. I'd done meticulous preparation using the virtual tour to pick out the best possible locations and none were available.

A cynic might say they weren't actually available in the first instance. Either way it begs the question, who got those dozens or even hundreds of seats, and why/how?

Corporate hospitality, sponsors, WAGs…

That must have been it. They may also have to keep some seats in premium areas for visiting supporters and anyone mad enough to pay top dollar for a one off ticket. Taken together, that could amount to quite a lot of seats. I bought mine at 10:03 and was astonished at the lack of available seats even at that time.

Still, having compromised on direct aisle access, I reckon we have a fighting chance of avoiding getting soaked or windswept while having a relatively unobstructed view! I'll see how this season goes, but may be tempted to mix with the hoi polloi in future if I don't receive the premium experience I'm entitled to ...

I put my anorak on and grabbed a calculator to take my mind off the football result.

As at 18.30 (and 8.5 hours of STH priority sales), looks like there are only 3,140 seats / terrace spots left that are available to buy (this split 49% standing and 51% seats).

Apparently they've shifted 1800 seats on the first day so I imagine that's pretty much all the prime seating gone.

There are only 21 single seats left between the try lines in the Main (N) and Lothian (S) stands combined at present.

Confirmation email at 10:02 here...and we had to move down a row as we were beaten to the first choice.

It looks like demand will be high and that by the time of open sale on 28th June there may be very few decent seats left. Behind the goals or standing might be as good as it gets. As Im buying for myself I may manage a single seat in Main or Lothian stands but its not looking hopeful. Doubt I will pay a wedge upfront to sit behind the goals

Very few decent seats at 10am! There's some top priced single seats tickets around the 22. If you want a season ticket holder help to get them you could PM me. Although a bit nervous to trusting a complete stranger.

Thanks Sammy for the consideration. I will wait and see. I’m warming to the Murrayfield Stand as it’s near the fan zone and it may be decent craic

Sounds like they might have kept some seats back for the sale to the Castle Club next Monday, the priority fans the Monday after and the general sale later that day.

https://www.edinburghrugby.org/the-clubhouse/season-ticket-memberships-double-day-one-record

So if you've ended up getting poor seats, there might be a chance to get better seats then cancel the first set?

Looking this morning at the ticketing site, there are only maybe 200 seats left in the 'Main' and Lothian stands, mainly located at the ends as you would expect. Link above says 1800 seats have been sold, but the two large stands must hold around 3500-4000 together?

Can you cancel once booked, wouldn't want to end up paying double. Sounds a bit ridiculous if true - as both a season ticket holder and a castle club member, if feels like being punished for trying to support the club as much as possible. I also didn't take the refund from last year, which I now regret given the steep price rise.

Not clear to me what would be a non-poor seat, I generally liked being higher up in Murrayfield, but with the pillars and lower roof not sure I'd like it. Will those at the back be able to see our wonderful and ubiquitous box kicks!

Have some of these “sold” tickets have been kept aside for corporate clients? I would assume part of the Main Stand would be used for these?

I do feel existing season ticket holders did not get enough advantage, and Castle Club looks like a waste of time.

But I suspect Edinburgh were caught unawares by the demand and so expected more advantage to accrue than did due record demand.
