Interesting game today, thought we played well in the first half but didn’t get the points we deserved. Second half was a bit of a damp squib, predictable with son many subs. It was hard to keep track of who was on and off with numbers changing and no announcements.

Thought Blain looked very good, probably our most consistent threat, Bennet looked sharp and took his try well, Velacott very lively. Decent shifts from a lot of the forwards, I like the look of Sykes more and more, real dog in him. Savala is a real threat, although his passing needs more fizz, too often a bit loopy and allows the defence to line up our players, we also seemed to be playing from a standing start behind the gain line a lot.

New stadium is very good, like the facilities and the novelty of not only water but warm water in toilets at Murrayfield was a bonus! The tannoy was pretty hopeless as couldn’t hear anything and the screen needs the font size doubles so we can actually read the teams. Nothing that can’t be sorted I’m sure.

Lots of food and drink options and room to sit on the grass and enjoy the day. So a good start from that point of view and 6k for a pre season it impressive too.

Agree with most of the above. Some nice touches from Immelmann and Lang as well.Haining and Bradbury also showed some real physicality.Scoreline not a reflection of the game-two interceptions and failing to take advantage of territorial advantage.
Overall a very good experience and worth the long wait for our own "home".Come the League this could create both a terrific atmosphere and excellent view with everyone so close to the pitch.
Only downside was the announcement but presumably sound can be fixed easily.

Wasn’t there yesterday, but I thought Lang had been listed as injured?

I think it was Hutchison in the first half and Venter in the second who wore 12. Both looked pretty good.

As I said it was ahead to tell with no announcements of subs, som players with no numbers, some coming on with numbers which were worn by other players in the first half etc.

Agree Immelmann looked very solid and good hands.

Lang or Venter?
Yes centresI was arare Lang wasn't listed but I thought it was him-given I've never seen Venter before.Apologies,if so Venter looked pretty useful and adds to our stock of useful centres with Currie still to return as well.
And just been watching Boffelli get half an hour against the All Blacks so looks like some healthy competition in the back three so hopefully we won't miss DVDM too much after all.

Was impressed by the new stadium and thought the atmosphere at the start was really good and loud. Unfortunately as the game went on there was less and less to cheer, but it feels very promising for the start of competitive games.

As for the match itself, the players appeared understandably rusty - rustier than Newcastle at least, who've already played one or two warm-up matches. It was good to see the likes of Savala and J. Venter getting time on the park, both look promising although very raw. Not sure whether Savala is now ahead of Chamberlain in the pecking order, but I for me 10 remains a concern - JVDW took a nasty knock might might well be a doubt for the season's start.

Immelman and Blain looked good at the back and Bennett was the most threatening runner with ball in hand. Newcastle appeared to have the upper hand in the scrum at most points, regardless of who was in the front row for either side.

FInally - Mata was in the stadium with a big space boot on his foot and someone behind me stated that he has a broken ankle; any ideas if that is confirmed?

New stadium certainly passed muster and surpassed expectations in most aspects . Remains to be seen how the wind will affect it . As for the game it is unfair to be critical as the players made a real go of playing positive Rugby . Pluses I felt was JVW looking fresh and sharp until he left injured. Bennet and Immelmann looked class and Bennett in particular looks like he recovered the pace of 3 years ago. Ventner looks keen but a bit Raw and we probably need to work on the speed of midfield passing to wide channels .

Couldn’t see a scoreboard and the screens may be more visible for night games but overall a good fan experience was our group’s verdict .

Fair bit of rustiness as may be expected, but a good amount of positives from the performances as well.

Looked like we were running simple loops in the backline quite a bit, even that is step on from previous seasons.

Was it Moyano that came on wearing 14 as well? Whoever it was looked pretty decent with some important defensive interventions.

Given we have a lot of quality players still to come back in i think that was an ok outing.

I thought Moyano was wearing 23 in the second half, but not sure.

There were 2 x 14 on the pitch for a fair bit of the second half, Blain was one but not sure of the other, could easily have been Moyano, but then who was 23?

Quite good fun trying to guess who everyone was!

Actually while we are at it, was it McBurney or Harrison who came on at half time at hooker? Showed great pace for one cover tackle and carried well, lineouts were a bit iffy all game though.

Patrick Anderson (Southern Knights winger) came on in the second half, think he was wearing 14. He's short-ish with dark hair.

McBurney came on at half time. Thought he put himself about quite well, but you're right, the line outs weren't great all game.

My overall thoughts from watching the game on Youtube are that we weren't looking too bad and the scoreline wasn't really a fair reflection. We were playing with a decent bit of tempo, especially with Vellacott in the first half, and were able to find gaps. We just needed more patience - too many offloads when they weren't on and the tap penalties and quick line outs weren't always wise. Set piece wasn't great either.

Immelman looks a decent addition to the backline - he's a big strong runner and links up well with the other back 3 players.

The new stadium is a better experience for TV viewers as well. No echoing sound and swathes of empty seats - this will give a much better impression for attracting casual fans (and probably players).
