Embra v Stormers

Postby Tichtheid on Fri Oct 08, 2021 10:41 am

DHL Stormers: 15 Warrick Gelant, 14 Sergeal Petersen, 13 Juan de Jongh, 12 Rikus Pretorius, 11 Edwill van der Merwe, 10 Tim Swiel, 9 Paul de Wet,

8 Evan Roos, 7 Willie Engelbrecht, 6 Nama Xaba, 5 Salmaan Moerat, 4 Ernst van Rhyn, 3 Neethling Fouche, 2 Scarra Ntubeni, 1 Brok Harris.

Replacements: 16 JJ Kotze, 17 Kwenzo Blose, 18 Sazi Sandi, 19 Justin Basson, 20 Marcel Theunissen, 21 Godlen Masimla, 22 Manie Libbok, 23 Dan du Plessis.

Roos was outstanding last week against Munster, the fly half who started was playiing well too, but I think he picked up a hamstring injury.
One of the starting locks last week picked up a ban for a bite.

They are a good side, they really hand Munster on the ropes for a while.

Wonder what's happened to Bennett - played well the last few weeks.

Muncaster and Currie playing for Sonians this week.

Aye, I'd liked to have seen Lang and Bennett get more time playing together, no slight intended on Hutchinson. Perhaps Blair is looking for a bit more direct ball carrying in that pairing, it certainly looks like it in the forwards with the welcome return of Maggie to the pine and Sykes to the starting line up.

Very good news on Currie being back to playing, I don't recall Muncaster being on the injured list but the laddies need to play, so good news there too, maybe not for the opposing fly half right enough

The ER article has Bennett and McInally as rested

Big pack we have picked, dont think we want to try and arm wrestle them although weather forecast not great so may not have a choice.

Coaching team maybe looking for 2nd phase plays off Hutchinson otherwise wd have thought Lang at 12 with Johnson at 13 with his pace and experience.

Making the pilgrimage north for this one, so apologies to anyone behind myself and the present Mrs TC in the queue as we try to persuade the checking staff that 2 English jabs really do count

I think we're all hoping that Jaco will prove to be a better player than he was allowed to be in Cockerhill/Hodge's system.

Unfortunately what I think we'll actually see is that he's just a bang average player.

May prove that Jaco was conditioned to play to Cockerill template. Give him time . Still a stronger option than the young colts in the stable. Kinghorn a more rounded , skilful Rugby player . A back row led defence facing quick ball to Vellacott and Kinghorn will feel real threat.

To be fair to VDW I think last week was his first start in 7/8 months post injury so hopefully a bit of rustiness in his game and he will improve, he certainly ran a lot more ball when he first arrived. Time will tell, and probably good to have a bit of competition to start he has not really been pushed much last couple of seasons.

Bah that is one that got away, think we played to their strength, should have tried to move them about more.

Their defence was good although maybe too good at times.

Don't get not using sheil and without another 10 on the bench we never looked like being able to change things up.

Thought VDW played well for the most part and not that lang or Hutchison played badly but Bennett was missed and offers a bit more. Will be good to have Kinghorn and boffelli available and give us options.

Aye, I really don't see the point of Shiel warming the bench, he offers real zip in his pass and pace to challenge a big pack like that - he's like the perfect guy to come on at 60/65 mins.

I'm really looking forward to having Boffelli available, the club site lists him at fullback. Moyano had one touch today and he launched a promising attack.

It was good to see Bradbury back and carrying hard, I do worry about flogging Bill the way we do
