This will also be my 1st Calcutta Cup in person. i usually have no finger nails left when i am watching it on the TV, so i wonder what injury i will come home with - i had a bruise that lasted a month on my leg after the Australia match and managed to chip a bone in my hand on Sunday by over-zealous clapping  totally worth it with the 5 tries :airborne:

Was this a seat-jumping related injury? Those bruises last for ages.... far longer than actual rugby ones.

That has to be one of the best rugby-related injuries I have heard. Legendary.

The old hands were sore from clapping on Sunday. Good times. :D

The 90s were a golden age of Scottish rugby compared to what we have now.

We never lost to Ireland, usually beat Wales, regularly beat France at Murrayfield, won a Grand Slam in 1990 and the 5N in 1999 playing great rugby! We also made the SF of the WC in 1991, losing 9-6 after Big Gav missed a sitter that would have given us a late lead. We may not have beaten England between 1990 and 2000 but we also had a chance of winning the championship in 92 and 94.

These days many supporters seem to be pleased if we squeeze past Italy.

I would go back to the grim days of the 1990s in a heartbeat.

I must be more scarred by the drubbings the SANZAR nations gave us in the later 90's and the 14 k crowd that turned out to watch us loose to Argentina.

Lets be honest results against Ireland and Wales were more reflective of the strength of their team rather than ours. Up to the world cup in 91 the team was probably as good as its been but after that it was more the exception rather than the rule.

We have never recovered from the advent of open professionalism and the total failure of the SRU to get its act together during the critical period thereafter.

Our 6N record in the 21st century has been appalling, (is it 2 or 3 wins from our last 15 6N games?) even if we have managed to get streaky wins against SA and AUS on a couple of occasions.

At least in the 1970s when we were equally crap we scored some great tries occasionally.

Right now, I could very easily live with the 1990s when finishing mid-table in the 6N was a disappointing result. At least then we won most of our home games and played Scotsmen who put their bodies on the line.

We missed out on three Grand Slams in the 90s - losing to England in all 3. I was easily the best decade for Scottish rugby.

Yup little did we know it at the time. The pinnacle was the 99 season. There used to be a DVD of that available.

Yeah, horses can be quite dangerous!

Well I've survived my game (winning 31-0 over Stirling County, woot!) with a fat cheek, stupid bruise on the end of my nose and a distinct limp, so there can be no smiling or jumping about today, but I'm sure I can work through the pain if there's cause to do either. :D

Chuffed to see Geoff Cross is up for his 2nd cap and that Alan MacDonald is up for his 3rd. :D

Here's hoping I survive my own match and initiation to make it there!

Mrs W who is not a rugby fan was at the game on a corporate freeby. She had her photo taken with both the above, but had no idea who they were.

As a side, every random weirdo and his dog was claiming to play for Edinburgh, in the town after the match.

My personal erm, favourite I guess, was the guy who was no more than 5' 5" claiming to play 2nd row. Great fun ripping the deluded fool, til I got bored and told him I had a season ticket and he made a hasty retreat. Who in their right mind tries to give the chat to a lass with a black eye anyway?

And a wee mention about the Scotland Women's team, who put up a valiant fight against a considerably larger England team, sadly unable to cross the white wash in a 51-0 defeat at Meggatland.

2 from the last 14. Meaning we need 8 wins from the next 11 to meet the SRU's 2008-12 target. Still, at least if it happens we'll maybe get the one championship we're supposed to be targeting in the process...
