Ditto.

Without getting too political on here this is a result of May's 'hostile environment' and does not represent the country that Scotland is. This is just inhuman.

Aye. Treat people with a bit of dignity and common sense, at least.

The 'hostile environment' will probably make moving back to the UK somewhat difficult for me - we'd probably meet all the requirements but it's still a bureaucratic nightmare, by intention.

Around 97,000 now.

Great that it's attracting this kind of attention.

Over 100k now, which I think that means it must get debated in parliament. Hopefully this will help not just this family, but others that have made their life here who do not have the same connections to get such publicity.

I'm not an open doors supporter by any means, but this home office action was beyond the pale. Heartened so may though likewise, and flabbergasted by some of the comments (not on this forum) of those that disagree.

Thanks everyone who made a contribution by signing the petition and sharing, and to those that still intend to,

You're confusing Change.org with petition.parliament.uk - if it was a parliamentary debate that they were after then they started in the wrong place. Even if it were an "official" petition, there is no legal requirement to take any notice of the number of signatories although 100,000 signatures on a formal petition usually results in a debate.

Hopefully the strength of feeling will attract the interest of regional politicians so that they can trigger some kind of response but there's no onus on the government to do anything at all I'm afraid.

That's a shame, wishful thinking on my part then.

For those who feel strongly and who wish to stir up some kind of response that might make a difference, you can find a list of all your local, national and European representatives along with handy links for contacting them at https://www.writetothem.com

If you do so, it will probably be helpful to point them towards the petition link so they can see the strength of feeling. I understand that politicians can be swayed by things like that

I see grand parents have been granted leave to remain no court case required.

A rare moment of common sense from a government function, although should probably have never got to this stage.

Great news, but yeah, a situation brought about by bureaucratic idiocy

Delighted to hear this news. Astonished that it happened in the first place, not least given the distress it must have caused. Quite what goes through officials' minds in cases like this I have no idea.
