We've had the ball but we're not converting any opportunities. Bench coming on now probably means we're going to get pummelled in the pack for the remainder of the game

It's clear that Shiel is the best scrum half at Edinburgh. But also why throw a blindside no look pass when it wasn't even an overlap.

This is a really gritty and exciting performance. Why does Cockers put up with the sludge when we can play like this.

That was a good performance all things considered. Bradbury, Crosbie, Boyle and Kunavula were very good. Kinghorn at 10 fantastic. Sau and Shiel looked great.

Patrick Harrison at 18 to play without fear was excellent.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Also that's Chamberlain, Savala and Kinghorn now all playing flatter, challenging the line and not shovelling. Maybe it's not the gameplan and maybe it is van Der Walt.

What a terrific second half, real grit with nothing in it (except to help Glasgow!).Young lads dids surprisingly well when they came on.Pity we didn't quite make it over for the draw.
Only worry was more injuries-Vdw,Bennett,possibly Kinghorn?

Nothing to loose in the second half, some good showings, final game to care about 1872 cup, the rest, a novelty to give the young guys a run and start again next season fit and raring to go?

We should probably give the Racing Metro game a good crack if we have the senior players.

Happy enough with that, though still disappointing that they didn't get the last score for a draw when they had the chance.

It felt like the game turned a lot on the change at halfback for us, Kinghorn had a lot of good attacking touches and was much better in defence. Currie and Boyle did really well when they came on, Currie's defence against their danger men out wide was absolutely outstanding.

Still made quite a few silly mistakes when were on top, and struggled closer to their line to challenge their set defence, so we've still got a long way to go. Hopefully this is a step towards a more mobile game plan rather than a meaningless throwabout one-off

Ah the slings and arrows of supporting a sports team.

We’ve had a diabolical season and a decent 40 minutes at the very end fills us with hope!

The young laddies do look good though

To be fair this season there's been no preseason and the international windows have gutted the squad.

I'd expect us to be competitive and close to the top again next season if things are back to normal-er.

And lots of young players have been exposed to pro rugby and done not too bad.

It's a fair point, but worth remembering that even with strong squads at the start of the season we were absolutely dire. Getting a team out with Sutherland/McInally/Watson could help us grind out a win in a game like today's, but probably won't get us up the top of the table.

The game against Racing will be a good test, technically there's still a chance at progression (however slim), are we going to keep up playing flat to the line or revert to the slower game plan?

But we were top last season before the league was mothballed. And without Scott and VdM I have serious doubts we'll be there but we'll be closer to that than the bottom as with this year.

Probably depends who is at 10. I'd wager that Kinghorn can't play deep at 10 nor Savala.

If it had been boxing it would have been stopped after 30 minutes. But a real treat to see some young kids come on and for the whole team just to pick up pace and give it a lash. Running rugby - it'll never catch on !

Kunavalu - another great back row option to have waiting in the wings for Mata / Ritchie / Watson to be away. Thought he, Crosbie and Bradbury were great. Kinghorn again looking better at 10 than back three for my money

Kinghorn played flat and that sped up ball and loosened structures of both sides , especially as Dragons set up to chase the points. VDW plays deeper because he has been coached that way and he kicks more so needs the space. Can Kinghorn improve play from 10 ? Signs are promising for sure.Certainly gives us options. He played 10 all through school and youths at Currie. . He switched to 15 in U20s to accommodate the more specialised talents of Hastings.
Fantastic showing from youngsters who were probably inspired by our flying Fijians who were absolutely terrific and helped by the encouragement of some of the more experienced hands on the pitch who could be heard over the crowd sound. All very encouraging.
