BONUS POINT EMBRA WHIP LLANELLI AT STRADEY

Life is full of surprises. Your correspondent's 3 year old and 18 month old sons have already developed a fondness for the work of legendary fomer The Grateful Dead frontman, the late Jerry Garcia. They quite like Woody Guthrie too. Truly, future careers at NME beckon for the wee tykes.Another surprise - at least for the many who viewed prospects for this season with some trepidation following the rather spectacular events of last summer - is that Edinburgh have just finished in a very creditable fourth place in the Magnersleague, level on points with third-placed Munster, and a nos

3 TRY EMBRA DOWN HAIRSPRAYS

Early last season, an even younger James Hook announced his arrival on the scene with a nerveless kicking display to boot the Ospreys to a narrow win over Edinburgh at the Liberty Stadium. Tonight the classy first five eighth put in another quality display of goalkicking. But the star-studded home side, still chasing a Heineken spot next year, were unable to break down the visiting defence. Edinburgh's three tries, the last notched by openside Alan MacDonald in the dying minutes, were enough for their third win in Wales on the trot. It's been some day in the Murrayfield porta

LIONS TAMED

Sitting in the vicinity of the Leinster coaches tonight, high in Murrayfield's west stand, not far from The Matt Williams Memorial Box, was an education in many ways. Firstly, the Leinster swear box will not be short of a euro or two after the visitors' performance. Secondly, and slightly less flippantly, it is clear that Embra have the Indian sign over Leinster. And they know it. That is perhaps little surprise, given that the Irish province have only ever won once in Edinburgh.A bonus point win would have given the champions-elect the title. When it does come, they will

DAN'S THE MAN

As Dan Parks steered Glasgow to an excellent win at Firhill, securing the 1872 Challenge Cup on aggregate for the home side, he reminded one of former Edinburgh cult hero, the great Brendan Laney. Both gentlemen could boss a game at this level in some style, yet both seemed to find it difficult to cope with the increased pace of international rugby. And both have not been flavour of the month at the opposite end of the M8, in part perhaps because of their Antipodean roots. No-one seemed too fussed about that sort of thing when Glasgow coach, Sean Lineen, burst on to the scene nearly 20 years

Glasgow v Edinburgh. Friday 11th April 2008

This Friday sees Edinburgh travel to the Firhill Arena to take on local rivals Glasgow in the 1872 Challenge Cup decider. Edinburgh won the first leg at Murrayfield 35-31. So it is all to play for.Of course, you may be worried about how to get there, or where to park the car or what time to leave in order to get there for the 8pm kick off. Well why not let Edinburgh Rugby do the worrying for you. Supporters buses have been organised by Edinburgh Rugby to take everybody to the game in comfort. The first bus leaves the Murrayfield Hotel at 5.30pm with the last bus leaving at 6.15pm. They l

Survey - Thank you notice

The Edinburgh Rugby Supporters' Club committee would like to extend their thanks to those who completed the recent survey. The response was excellent, your opinions were valued and we welcomed your views. This was the first time we have used this method to coordinate the replies and to find out what you, the supporters', want. As a supporters' club committee, it is important to know what the supporters' want and to find out what your thoughts are. We hope now to take forward your views and opinions next season. Thanks again.ERSC committee

CARDIFF GIVE GUNNERS THE BLUES

Poor, poor, poor, poor, poor. Poor. Look up the word "inept" in your thesaurus, multiply it by the number you first thought of and you will get some idea of the sort of performance Edinburgh foisted on their supporters tonight. Sadly, after last week's blip against Connacht, the usual post-6 Nations collapse is alive and well.It is genuinely difficult to recall anything of note in the home performance during this match. While Cardiff started proceedings with their foot firmly on the accelerator, Edinburgh were unable even to let off the handbreak. Cardiff looked

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Last weekend, Scotland went in at the break handily placed to kick on against a stuffy but limited Italian team. As those who were still able to watch what ensued from behind their sofas know only too well, 40 minutes of utter cluelessness gifted the victory to the ecstatic Italians instead. Tonight, Edinburgh too held a useful half-time lead over game Connacht, having played into a gale force northerly at Murrayfield. But they showed the national team how to close out games like these by scoring 28 unanswered points in the second period to romp away with a fine bonus point win. There was an
