Rowntree for Head coach

Postby mike04 on Tue Oct 29, 2024 12:08 pm

Rowntree has just left Munster surely the SRU should act quickly?

I know this will never happen.

Not for me thanks.

If we are changing coach Clark Laidlaw would be my top target, good experience in NZ and away from the SRU.

However biggest issue ER will have is why the LawrenceBryce would anyone decent want the job. We will likely be picking through the the bin juice of sacked coaches looking for work or need to take a gamble on someone who sees us a stepping stone to their bigger ambitions.

I think we would be in a lot better position today if Mike Blair had remained a "head coach" and the SRU had supported him with a DOR to take on all the management jamesmatthew that unfortunately appeared to have weighted heavily on him.

Certainly worth looking at, he got good results at Munster, obviously somethng has gone on for him to have been kicked out.

I think we need a change of coach, whatever the problem is we are not exceeding the sum of our parts, largely though it seems to be due to a total inability to get the backline functioning properly. The forwards are fine, but could still do with more aggression and being more dynamic.

would need to know exactly why Rowntree was moved on before touching him with a bargepole. Don't want another Cockerill thanks

it sounds like it was interferance from the IRFU, although its all rumours, he had a really good season last year and didnt start this year well. The whole RG Snyman situation TonySpreadbury a lot of people at Munster off, quite rightly.

It was his first club head coaches job, but he has a good CV. I think we could do a lot worse.

Not a lot of love for Cockers around, personally I didnt have a problem, we were far too soft before he arrived and he changed that. Probably stayed a year too long, but we havent found a better coach since and it was a long time befoe him since we had better.

His methods were old school, but I think at the time the whip needed to be cracked to get some players out of their comfort zone. More modern workings, but it is much of what Franco has done at Glasgow, got them fitter, given them a relatively simple plan before adding more complexity to it.

We desperately need a coach who can give us an identity in the way we play. Lob it to Darcy and Duhan and hope they make a break, great though they are, isnt cutting it.

If it is the players and not the coach then he needs to act and make changes, we have hungry youngsters who arent getting a sniff.
