Scott Mathie - new attack coach

Postby The Chiel on Sat Aug 17, 2024 9:37 am

Something needed to be done, and despite the web site claims of Everitt's brilliance as an attacking coach, a lot of the backs looked like every week was their first time playing together. Mathie's not exactly the biggest name, but let's see what he can do. He has excellent raw material to work with.

Totally agree with all of that, we have the talent, but have looked utterly clueless on how to open up a defence for the las 18 months. Hopefully we will see an improvement very soon.

Everitt is a backs coach, I know he has said he wanted to focus on othr elements first, but it always felt odd just how little seemed to be happening in the backs. I really hope we can see more shape and invention, i just cant beleive that Bennett and Lang in particular have dropped off a cliff in that respect. Unfortunately I do think that Healy is part of the issue, but he did look a different player in the summer for Scotland, so hopefully he can continue that form.

Not making play offs is just not good enough now. to not make the play offs while being fairly eye bleeding to watch just cant happen again.

F-

We don't have a team attack plan - only lateral movement with occasional breaks.
See most of last nights game for evidence.

The only vague attack plan is badly executed box kicks or passes to flyhalfs sitting 10m from the 9 & then booting the ball up field.

Without the vision of certain individuals, this "team" would never score tries.
