Probably needs a pay per game contract somewhere - maybe a Top14 medical joker. The irony for me is if he'd stayed fit I doubt we could have held on to him this long. Genuine international quality player imo.

I suppose only the medics and backroom staff know if he is going to get fit again? If they are confident he is going to be fully fit after all the work on him then he might be a cheap option given most other clubs are unlikely to be interested in the risk? He might also want to stay and repay the club for looking after him? Also remember Argentina is going through quite a lot of economic and financial disruption and a decent salary from Edinburgh might be quite attractive for a couple of years compared to no offers in UK or France and going home and getting paid in a plummeting peso?

If he stays on pay per game and regains fitness I'd be delighted. But the other side of the coin is at what stage we (sorry to be brutal ) stop throwing good money after bad. Injures happen of course, but this has been going on for a long time and always seems to be one step forward and two steps back. Also, if the talk about Ventner and his contract over on the dark side - being released to enable more Scottish talent against Smith's wishes - is to be believed, Bofelli's departure could free up some space and budget. Decisions, decisions . . . . :(

I can see us losing a young backrower to the darkside to replace Venter. Although with Ritchie and probably Watson off our youngsters are likely to get gametime next season.

Re Boffelli, i think he would have been great to have around when Graham and VDM away to help Wells, Patterson, Sweeney come through, and his kicking also takes pressure off the 10s, but all 4 of them seem to have injury problems which is concerning.

Richardson confirmed on a 2 year deal.

Good player

My reservation is if it is the best use of our budget and is it a position we really needed to strengthen.

No disclosure I can see as to whether or not SRU had to buy out remainder of his contract.Hopefully not in current strained financial position.

I would guess as he is no longer SA qualified that may well be happy to get him off the wage bill.

Decent signing, but as already said, is it really a signing we needed to make? It would make a lot more sense for him to join Glasgow given how the hookers are ajudged at both teams.

In two minds about this as I rate Harri Morris as an excellent prospect-but he needs to be playing.

And Harrison needs more game time.

Ashman signed a 4 year deal so assume he ain't going anywhere. As has been said made more sense for Glasgow based on current information. But we perhaps have more budget freed up with Price, Ritchie and Watson at least likely to be leaving among the higher earners (Cherry as well).

Still a good number of re-signings and leavers to be announced at both clubs.

They all need gametime. Ashman and Harrison are good, but they still need to develop, in particualar in lineout work. I really hope we dont let Harrison go anywhere, he still has huge potential.

I really rate Richardson, but if budget is tight then the backs is where we need to use it.

As you say, a long way to go to confirm the sqaud for next year though.

Richardson may also have been signed to cover back row as well?

All the 10s extended

Healy - 1 year
Scott - 2 year
Thompson - 2year

Would like to see Cammy Scott get a proper run of games. Bit suprised Healy has extended as he appears out of favour.

Interesting that all 3 have extended, all have potential to be better than we are seeing currently. It does mean we are really unlikley to see a new 10 coming in. It is really down to the coaches now to get the best out of them.

Surprised to see Cammy Scott extended for 2yrs, it really looks like Everitt doesnt rate him, but in the few minutes he has had he has looked good and its not as if he is behind form players, he certainly hasnt looked like a downgrade when he has come on.

Our midfield has been a problem though and we need to fix it somehow. Have to assume Matt Scott will be moving on, not sure about the others in the centre, similarly if Bennet is OOC its hard to see it being renewed.

at 9 we only have Vellacott and Shiel who appears to largely play only when needs must.

Patterson and McAlpine in the academy are both good prospects but given how slow youngsters are brought through at ER I suspect we may see reinforcement at 9. Gus Warr was previously linked to an SRU move but not sure what his contract status is.

Lewis Wells and Jack Brown both look capable of stepping up which should sort back 3 cover.

Tom Currie and Ollie B-L i think could both move to pro-contracts

Scott was only on one year deal so could well call it day, if Bennett moves on as well we really need to add a quality experienced centre as well as a 9...i therefore expect us to announce a prop and second row with Goosen wasted at 13 next season
