I quite enjoyed that one. I think Cardiff played very well but our defence is just too strong.

Shiel was great but Pyrgos brought us home.

Not sure about Hickey's game and again backs are far too deep!

Fish was class but for some great Taylor play would've had a flawless game.

Schoeman definitely motm for me.

I hope tovey isn't too badly injured - get well soon!

I'll confess I missed the first 20, but did the ball even once get past the centres without being kicked ? Sau came in on the angle a couple of times to carry but all DVDM was given was kick chase. I mean, I know he's not that great ball in hand . . . ( inserts sarcastic emoji ).
Very frustrating, although I accept a wins a win. And Dean's sidestep is a thing of great beauty.

A win is a win. We’ve played well plenty of times and lost, im happy winning a bit ugly. Defence was good again, Schoeman made a difference when he came on.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

A really hard game to watch, too slow in at the breakdown giving them a chance to steal? Maybe a wee chip over the top instead of the pack trying to barge through? Still keeps up top, that’s a plus.

We did well to win that when Cardiff were monstering us at the breakdown.

Shiel did well, don't know why we were worried about his box kicking.

I’m glad it’s not just me, it was tense but I enjoyed it. Differing tactics and 2 strong defences. Taylor and
Shiel both started really well. Anyone know how bad a Taylor’s injury is? Looked
like a break/dislocation. A shame as he has been excellent.

For all we moan about Pyrgos slowing things down I thought Shiel almost played too quickly at times, we weren’t setting up phase play and ended up getting isolated. Albeit the Clancy lottery at the breakdown didn’t help. To be fair it would be better if the rest of the team got up to his speed but he needs to
Read that a bit better.

Probably the poorest game from Bill for a long time. We really need to get Duhan and
Away coming off their wing more, they feel wasted and both struggle under the high ball so need to play to their strengths.

Thing about last night for me was whilst not at all comfortable until Hickey’s final penalty went over, I genuinely didn’t think we were going to concede a try and whilst you can never rule out penalties when Clancy has the whistle and there are things like breakdowns happening around the pitch, the discipline was really good in the final quarter. Couple of seasons ago we lose that game in 100% of instances, it’s amazing how far this team has come in what is only Cocker’s 3rd season. Man I hope we get at least 5 or 6 years out of him to really see where we can get to!

Two good defences and two pretty blunt attacks made for such a close and low scoring game. I didn't think it was a bad game, just a very tight one lacking in attacking flair. But sometimes you just have to grind out a win, and that's something we've never been good at, so there was a lot to commend in last night's performance.

Cardiff played well, and I enjoyed seeing Tovey in action again. One of our best 10's in recent years, even though he was here during the long period we were hopeless. Cardiff have a good record at Murrayfield, so given the players we were missing that was a good result for us.

I found myself wondering if I'd prefer to have Tovey on a moderate deal or Hickey on a large deal... I thought Tovey?

Agree it's not one I'd rewatch but it was tense I enjoyed the drama and the battle at the breakdown.

Also he gets a bad rep but Clancy was great too. Not any mad decisions and not many if any weird decisions.

I thought the chip over the top was waiting to be done as well. Cardiff were quite often set up with only one man deep to crowd the defensive line. It was obvious that had been pointed out at half time, as it was tried, particularly cross field, a few times in the second half, but the execution wasn’t great.

That was by no means a strong Cardiff line up, they had a bunch of kids playing, they had to fly a couple of players up just before the game due to injuries during the captain’s run. They showed a lot more heart than we did, Fish ran the show for them with a really good kicking display. There were no conditions to deal with and we were at home. We were outplayed in the first half and just about shaded the second against a team on a five day turn around versus our seven.

From the perspective of a proud member of the Happy Clappy Brigade, that was a SteveWalsh performance from us

I did enjoy the "it's a knock on - no it's not and the immortal phrase "my bad", explains his decision to the captains, and then sees the incident on the big screen and decides ( correctly ) he was right after all" process.

And big kudos to him for acknowledging that he could be wrong. Not a problem that afflicts TBRITW too often.

Hoyland tried a chip move in the first half. It didn't come off.
