Rugby Paper saying Rory Sutherland being chased by Pau ( Top 14 ) and Biarritz ( D2 ). Allegedly wants to stay in Scotland ( third child imminent ) but no offers from this side of the Channel. That surprises me, unless he's pricing himself out of the market. He's 30, but that's no great age for a prop.

wouldn't be surprised if he starts against Ireland.

Great news for him, really tough on Cherry

There seem to be some rumours that Cherry leaving the squad had an element of discipline around it. No idea if true, but it does seem to be a very quick judgement made given there were still nearly 2 full weeks to the next game.

Ashman is already on concussion RTP protocols which I believe take a minimum of 12 days, the upshot of which means Scotland would have been down to one hooker all of last week and some of this. There would be no guarantee that Ashman would be fit for Sunday, even if he was back to contact training this week.

And now Rambo is out with a neck injury. Sad that he didn't get the swan song that he deserved.

Good luck to him in retirement

Jersey Reds go into administration. Desperate times for the Championship.
But from a Scottish point of view, there are a few players - Nicol, Wynne and Grahamslaw who could come home.

Unfortunately at prop in particular we don’t have room.

Jersey coach said the average wage was £25k, so maybe not a huge drop to go to super6. Was always a good place for players let go by Glasgow and Edinburgh to go and rebuild.

Hoyland has signed for Old Glory DC in the US, glad he has got something, difficult market for players OOC at present.

Couple of lines in the Rugby Paper to say that Edinburgh wanted to take Steve Longwell ( tight head ), but Jersey refused to waive the £25k release fee. That sounds a bit odd to me, but the whole thing has been dreadfully handled by Jersey.
The RFU have created the toxic situation in the Championship, but Jersey also have to take responsibility for their own financial position, and the overnight closure with no warning to staff or players is absolutely not how to do it.

I’d be surprised if we were after Longwell, given he is 33. Although given we have signed Rae we were obviously in the market.

I would have thought Adam Nicol would have been a better bet. Strong scrummager and still time to develop.

Agree about Nicol, but Rae is better than either imo.

True at this point certainly, both Sebastien and Rae are very good scrummages too. The criticism of Rae in the past was about his workrate outside the set peice. But as Nel has shown if you are doing damage in the scrum that us hugely valuable.

De Bryune is the opposite, but he looked a beast in the scrum playing loosehead last year.
