Nope, Dodson can bloody well get to the proverbial.

 He’s done nothing but degrade Scottish Rugby has he? ......... oh and clear the SRU debt, nearly double it’s revenue in a mere handful of years, Super 6 (even you must concede a success with better standards, coaching and good attendances), new stadium for Edinburgh, massive increases to budgets for both ER and GW (including hiring top notch coaches). The funds available to our pro teams now could only be dreamed of by Robinson, Bradley, Lineen et all. His reward this year was eye watering, yes, but remember over half of it is one off long term bonus secured against frankly what would have looked like unachievable KPI’s when set. He hit them. But hey, you go off on one because somebody starts a rumour (incidentally without any reference to source and it’s reliability) that a player may not have his contract renewed! Even if Scott isn’t here next season (I hope he is, and think he will be), It’s Cockers that decides how to spend ER’s budget as he sees fit and within a framework around overseas v SQ players I’m sure. Let’s also not forget, Scott’s demands need set against, sadly, a pretty awful injury track record and in particular, a propensity to suffer from head knocks and concussions. I think we will retain Scott, he can cover 13 in his new sleeker form and is box office on form. In the meantime, TIS, congratulations on your “what have the Romans ever done for us?” moment. You carry on ragin’!

The most recent 'head injury' wasn't actually that, despite what the coaches said. Scott had apparently been very sick before the game (likely bug) and started to feel dizzy during it. Taken off, passed the HIA tests but kept off as a precaution.....and could have played last night but was rested. That said, his injury record isn't great but, cumulatively, I dont think it's any worse than most players who've played at that level for that long.....re the contract, its definitely a 'no' according to my source.

Great to hear that about the HIA v Connacht. You certainly seem to have an inside track and if correct about contract renewal then that’s really disappointing but it’s hardly all down to Mark “Lucifer” Dodson, which was the thrust of my post.

I'll admit to a bit of hyperbole. I just think there's a certain debate to be had about whether Dodson's achievements are worth all that cash. Yes, the SRU debt was extensive, and we've made fantastic progress – but it doesn't necessarily mean that Dodson did something that someone else couldn't have done. That might be an uncharitable perspective, or a poorly-articulated one. I guess that a workman is only as good as his tools.

If you really do think Scott will be retained, then let's hope you're right! Despite some criticism of him last season, I think he's probably been, over the last two years, our best back not named Blair Kinghorn. Duhan will rightly be our player of the season, but Matt Scott has been consistently good over the last two seasons, when he's played. There's this odd misconception about him that he had been poor and had to prove himself at the start of this season. Last year was admittedly very injury-disrupted, but Scott turned in some great performances in Autumn 2018.

If Scott does stay, then I think our only piece of recruitment this summer will be a cheaper fly-half, plus a couple of odds and ends. Maybe a front-rower (I think Winning will be promoted to the senior squad), maybe a new hooker – Ewan Ashman, specifically. After that, we're pretty set to be honest. I wonder where Hunter-Hill will end up at.
Help! We're being held prisoner in a signature factory!

That first paragraph is like someone looking at modern art and saying ‘I could’ve done that’.
Don't mention Rory Hutton. I did once but I think I got away with it.

Re Matt Scott, just saw figures that suggest he has the 3rd most line breaks and the 4th most defenders beaten in the Pro 14.
Despite our other 4 centres all ready re signed, I am still of the opinion, that it is MS who makes the back line tick, and should be integral to our plans going forward. If money is the issue, then the SRU must pull out all the stops to keep him. We are gradually building a team that are improving and finding that hard nosed edge to grind out wins, which means, hopefully, playing in the big boys cup next year as well as the Pro 14 playoffs.
As good as JJ, CD and GT are, they are no MS and we should be looking to keep our best players.

Laidlaw not going to Perpignan and looking for a player coaching role elsewhere...

I'd rather have him than Groom to mentor Shiel and get into coaching here like Grant and Lawrie...

Jack Stanley off to Glos with immediate effect and Ceccarelli going at the end of the season.

Ceccarelli has Benn good whenever called upon, good luck to him. I hope he gets God playing time at Brive.

I assume this is to make space in the squad for Dan Winning, who looked good the other week when he came on. Frees up a bit of cash as well.

Winning to get more gametime and time for McCallum to really step up and compete for a start with Nel and Berghan.

I think we'll see another cheap TH signed up though. Another Ceccerelli type.

With Fagerson in favour with Scotland we at least get one of Berghan and Nel back, so perhaps we won't need to bring anyone in.

With Ceccarrelli doing so well this season we were probably just a bit too stacked with quality at tighthead when there is a budget to manage.

I really rate McCallum, when he first broke through I'd have thought he would have been competing to start at least by now given his impact. Still young though so hopefully he will come again.

Winning looks a great prospect with his cameo the other week a very early sign he might be able to back up the potential he showed before quite a bad injury ruled him out for a year.

Hmm that's the way rugby is going but it's not something I think is healthy for the game or many individuals involved.
